Brookhaven National Laboratory in Upton, NY, seeks a Hadron Storage Ring (HSR) System Manager to deliver the HSR WBS scope within the EIC project cost and schedule baseline. The role requires leadership across magnets, vacuum, beam instrumentation, RF, cryogenics and controls to ensure design, procurement, fabrication, installation and commissioning meet cost and schedule targets.
You will lead matrixed engineering teams, maintain the technical baseline, manage risks, and communicate progress to
Brookhaven National Laboratory (BNL) is the building site for the Electron-Ion Collider (EIC), a one-of-a-kind nuclear physics research facility. The EIC will be a discovery machine for unlocking the secrets of the "glue" that binds the building blocks of visible matter in the universe. The machine design is based on the existing and highly optimized RHIC Ion-Ion collider. It will consist of two intersecting accelerators, one producing an intense beam of electrons, the other a beam of protons or heavier atomic nuclei which are steered into collisions. Beyond sparking scientific discoveries in a new frontier of fundamental physics, the Electron-Ion Collider will trigger technological breakthroughs that have broad-ranging impact on human health and national challenges.
The Electron-Ion Collider (EIC) seeks a Hadron Storage Ring (HSR) System Manager. In this role, you will report to the Accelerator Storage Rings Project Manager and be responsible for the delivery of approximately $200M of scope within the EIC project schedule and cost plan. The HSR System Manager manages and directs matrixed technical resources to accomplish the deliverables associated with the Hadron Storage Ring (HSR) Work Breakdown Structure (WBS) within the Accelerator Storage Rings Subproject.
The Hadron Storage Ring is a major accelerator system within the EIC complex and includes the integration of multiple technical subsystems such as magnets, vacuum systems, beam instrumentation, power supplies, RF systems, cryogenics, controls, and supporting mechanical and electrical infrastructure. The HSR System Manager will be responsible for managing these multidisciplinary technical efforts and ensuring the successful design, procurement, fabrication, installation, and commissioning of the HSR system.
This position requires knowledge across a broad range of engineering disciplines and the ability to lead project execution within a matrixed organization. The HSR System Manager will maintain the technical baseline for the assigned WBS scope and ensure delivery in accordance with established cost, schedule, and technical performance requirements.
The role requires familiarity with project management practices within a federal project environment, including Earned Value Management Systems (EVMS), project tracking, scheduling, and reporting systems, to manage cost and schedule performance. The position requires exceptional interpersonal skills to work effectively with scientists, engineers, technicians, and project management staff across the EIC collaboration.
Provide project leadership and accountability for the delivery of the Hadron Storage Ring (HSR) WBS scope within the EIC project cost and schedule baseline.
