Job summary

St Joseph Home in Cincinnati, OH is seeking a part-time Habilitation Technician to support residents with habilitation tasks under OT/PT supervision and Nursing guidance.

The role focuses on maintenance ROM, assistance with therapists, and care for adaptive equipment, with 12–16 hours weekly (12 in school year, 16 in summer). Requires teamwork, calm judgment, and flexible scheduling.

Qualifications

  • Student in an approved program for Occupational or Physical Therapy preferred.
  • Able to work effectively as a team member and build professional relationships.
  • Schedule flexibility to meet operational needs.

Responsibilities

  • Provide maintenance range of motion to residents.
  • Assist therapists with splinting and AFO fittings; clean and maintain splints/AFOs.
  • Verify adaptive equipment is in order; assist with routine maintenance of wheelchairs and equipment.
  • Distribute and maintain meal equipment in cottages as indicated.
  • Monitor residents and follow the Individual Plan (IP); apply behavioral intervention strategies as IP specifies.
  • Identify and report health information and unusual incidents to appropriate personnel.
  • Demonstrate safe lifting, positioning, transferring of residents.
  • Interact courteously with residents, families, visitors and coworkers.

Job Summary

Under the direction of the OT/PT and guidance from the Director of Nursing, the Habilitation Technician performs routine tasks supporting the resident’s habilitation. This job primarily focuses on maintenance range of motion, assisting therapists, and maintaining therapy and adaptive equipment.

  • Provides maintenance range of motion to specified residents.
  • Assists therapists with splinting and AFO fittings. Cleans and maintains splints and AFOs, as needed.
  • Verifies that adaptive equipment is in order and well maintained, and assists with routine maintenance to wheelchairs and other equipment as necessary.
  • Distributes and maintains meal equipment in cottages, as indicated.
  • Monitors and stays alert to the changing needs and condition of residents at all times; maintains a working knowledge of resident’s Individual Plan (IP) and demonstrates use of appropriate behavioral intervention strategies as specified in the IP.
  • Identifies, properly reports, and documents health information and unusual incidents regarding residents to appropriate person(s).
  • Demonstrates competence in safe lifting, positioning, physical assistance to and transferring of residents
  • Interacts courteously and appropriately with residents, families, visitors and coworkers.
Requirements
  • Student in an approved program (graduate or undergraduate) for Occupational or Physical Therapy preferred. Will also consider students in other health-related fields (i.e. pre-med, nursing, etc.)
  • Must be able to work effectively as a team member while developing and maintaining professional relationships in the workplace.
  • Flexibility of schedule in order to meet operational needs is required.
  • Ability to remain calm and use good judgment, especially in emergency situations, is required.
