Qualifications

  • Ability to work well with children, parents, staff, and adults.
  • Strong background in gymnastics, tumbling, dance, or related movement sport.
  • Team player with excellent communication skills.
  • CPR/First Aid certification or obtain within 30 days of hire.
  • Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups.

Responsibilities

  • Set up and take down gymnastics equipment daily.
  • Follow scheduled formats and monitor class progress.
  • Keep accurate attendance records.
  • Make announcements before and after class as requested by the Gymnastics Director.
  • Demonstrate proper form, technique, and body alignment for each class.
  • Supervise staff to ensure classes start/end on time and progress reports are distributed.
  • Know YMCA Gymnastics program policies and current offerings.
  • Model positive relationship-building and safety-focused instruction.
  • Motivate gymnasts with learning, safety, and fun.
  • All other duties as assigned.

Position Summary:

Under the direct supervision of the Gymnastics Director, the Gymnastics Instructor will teach gymnastics and tumbling skills to children ages preschool and up, follow and adapt weekly lesson plans, demonstrate basic gymnastics skills, and positively motivate class participants with a focus on safety and quality standards.

Essential Functions:
  1. Setting up and taking down gymnastics equipment daily.
  2. Following scheduled formats.
  3. Keep accurate attendance records
  4. Make announcements before and after class as requested by the Gymnastics Director.
  5. Demonstrate proper form, technique, and body alignment specific to class format for the duration of the class.
  6. Supervise staff to ensure classes begin and end on time, attendance is recorded and skills are assessed and level slips/progress reports are distributed.
  7. Be an expert in YMCA Gymnastics program knowledge and policies/procedures. This includes being familiar with all current brochure gymnastics offerings.
  8. Models relationship-building skills (including Listen First) in all interactions.
  9. Motivating gymnasts positively with a focus on learning, safety, and fun.
  10. All other duties as assigned.

Requirements
QUALIFICATIONS
  1. Ability to work well with a diverse group of children, parents, co-workers, and adults.
  2. Strong background in gymnastics, tumbling, dance, martial arts, or other movement centric related sport as a participant and/or instructor.
  3. Team player with excellent communication skills.
  4. CPR/First Aid certification or obtain within 30 days of hire.
  5. Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
