Job summary

Farmington Municipal Schools seeks a Gym Master to assist the Athletic Coordinator and principal in directing athletic and activities programs for grades 9–12. The role is stipend-paid and adds to teaching duties.

  • The Gym Master uses communication and relationship-building skills to engage the athletic community in the knowledge of an advocacy for equity in meeting the diverse needs of the school community.
  • The Gym Master organizes and coordinates ongoing professional learning opportunities for coaches and staff that support the diverse learning needs of the coaches and staff.
  • The Gym Master manages the athletic facilities, budget, and daily operations to equitably meet the diverse needs of the athletic programs.
  • The Gym Master develops, supports, encourages and oversees programs that lead to increased student attendance, achievement, and graduation rates resulting in team and work skills to meet the diverse needs of the community.
Position: Gym Master
General Job Description: The gym master will assist the Athletic Coordinator and school principal in promoting direction and coordination for the athletic and activities program (grades 9-12). This position is in addition to teaching duties and will be paid by stipend.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities

  • The Gym Master manages the athletic facilities, budget, and daily operations to equitably meet the diverse needs of the athletic programs.

Additional Duties And Responsibilities
  • Plan for and manage the resources for which he/she is responsible, including finances, facilities, programs and time
  • Communicate accurately and effectively
  • Comply with all School Board policies and regulations.
  • Arranges for workers at home events and ensures their compensation (tickets, bench officials, public address, custodial, and security services)
  • Maintains current files on rules and regulations established by each coach/sponsor and on organizational by-laws/constitutions.
  • Coordinates transportation for extra-curricular events
  • Ensures coaches complete necessary reports
  • Coordinates usage by outside school groups and collect fees, payments, and insurance as needed
  • Ensures participants have required health examinations, keeps records of accident/injuries; promotes drug, alcohol, tobacco and steroid-free programs
  • Arranges for insurance and provides forms for coaches/sponsors to distribute to student participants
  • Ensures proper hospitality for visiting teams, coaches, fans and officials
  • Promote cooperative and supportive relationships among all curricular, coo-curricular, interscholastic relations with the schools and the personnel against who we compete; promotes positive public relations for the athletic/activity programs within the school district and local community; markets the program; serves as a spokesperson and advocate
  • Stresses involvement by encouraging maximum student membership in the activities and athletic program
  • Emphasizes and represents the philosophy and purpose of the interscholastic athletic program, including sportsmanship, pride in achievement, appreciation of team effort, hard work, fair play, respect for the rules/officials, the game, and abilities of others
  • Coordinates with principals, maintenance and custodial staff, and the Chief of Operations for the improvement and maintenance of such facilities
  • Ensures supplies, equipment, and uniform needs are met; compiles and prioritizes requests; manages procurement process; ensures good inventory management and that the equipment receives proper distribution care storage and repair
  • Coordinates with coachers, sponsors, and the registrar the checking of eligibility for each participant
  • Coordinates co-curricular and extra-curricular clubs, organizations, and activities such as student government, vocational organizations, music, student publications, cheerleaders, drill team, pep squad, and others
  • Maintains professional competence through inservice education, activities, and/or self-selected professional activities
  • Investigates complaints and reports of infractions of the rules, regulations, and procedures and resolves complaints and /or corrects violations
  • Investigates policy complaints and makes recommendations to immediate supervisor regarding possible actions
  • Oversees the HS concessions after school
  • Follow district and school procedures
  • Accept other responsibilities and duties assigned by the supervisor
Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree and license as required by the State of New Mexico. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.

Physical Requirements

Ability to perform the job and access the environment for which you are hired. The following may be required: Sitting, standing, lifting, moving about the room or school, carrying (up to 50 pounds), reaching, squatting, kneeling, prolonged typing, physical ability to type on a keyboard terminal, and moving light furniture.

Equipment/Technology Handled

Must know how to properly operate or be willing to learn to operate all multimedia equipment including current technology.

Work Environment

Must be able to work within various degrees of noise, temperature, and air quality. Interruptions of work are routine. Flexibility and patience are required. Must be self-motivated and able to complete job assignment without direct supervision. After hour work may be required.
