Job summary

Lockheed Martin in Orlando designs, builds and tests guidance, navigation and control algorithms for spaceflight programs and related hardware. This role focuses on developing and validating software that enables precise trajectory control during powered and coast phases.

Candidates should have strong math foundations, experience with MATLAB, Python or C++, and be able to work in a collaborative, mission-driven environment; US citizenship and ability to obtain Secret clearance are required.

Qualifications

  • BS in electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering, physics, computer science, applied mathematics, or similar STEM degree
  • 3+ years of professional experience in a relevant field
  • Foundational mathematics capabilities that include linear algebra, dynamics, coordinate frame transformations, and state estimation techniques
  • Experience with different simulation and test environments (6-DOF IFS, HWIL, flight test experience, etc.)
  • Proficiency in SW development environments like Git using programming languages such as MATLAB, Python, C++, FORTRAN, or Ada
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and ability to work in a collaborative environment
  • US Citizenship and an ability to attain Secret Clearance is required

Designs, develops, implements, verifies and tests algorithms to perform guidance, navigation and control of aircraft, spacecraft, launch vehicles and upper stages during powered and coast phases of flight, earth orbit, interplanetary cruise and orbital insertion, as well as during staging events. Navigation functions include the statistical processing of measured data points and their substitution into algorithms simulating physical reality. Guidance functions include the formulation of specific equations and control laws to achieve a desired position in space. Control design and analyses processes consist of the development of the control requirements for aircraft, launch vehicles and/or spacecraft.

Desired Skills
  • MS in electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering, physics, computer science, applied mathematics, or similar STEM degree and 1+ years of relevant experience
  • Experience using a Linux-based operating system
  • Familiarity with some, or all, of the following: linear algebra, probability and statistics, state dynamic equations, Kalman filter applications, kinematics and rotating coordinate systems
  • Experience integrating and testing hardware and software in Hardware In-the-Loop (HWIL)
  • Prior experience supporting flight tests
  • Ability to occasionally travel for up to two weeks at a time to White Sands Missile Range, New Mexico to support flight tests. Experience in air and missile defense, development, and testing is required
Pay Information

Full-Time Salary Range: $98100.00 - $182100.00

Represented full time employees accrue 6.67 hours of Vacation per month; accrue up to 52 hours of sick leave annually; receive at least 96 hours for holidays. PTO, Vacation, sick leave, and holiday hours are prorated based on start date during the calendar year.
