Job summary

Sumter School District Bates Middle School in Sumter, SC is seeking a qualified Guidance Counselor to support students academically and personally, coordinate counseling services, and participate in placement meetings. 205-day term.

The successful candidate will have a Master's degree and SC Educator Certification in Secondary School Counseling, collaborate with teachers, parents, and outside resources, and contribute to a positive school climate.

Qualifications

• Master's degree required and valid South Carolina Educator Certification in Secondary School Counseling.
• Experience or preparation in guidance counseling and student support services.

Responsibilities

• Works with students individually, in small groups, and in the classroom.
• Guides in the decision making processes concerning academics and personal/social development.
• Helps students evaluate their interests, aptitudes, abilities, and personal characteristics for educational planning.
• Consults with outside resources/agencies to maximize and coordinate the use of available services.
• Consults with parents regarding their children, family counseling on school related issues, and meetings for special purposes.
• Provides services and expertise to and for the students, teachers, administrators, parents, and community.
• Assists students in developing self-confidence and a positive self-concept.
• Assists students in strengthening interpersonal skills.
• Assists students in analyzing personal learning styles and improving individual study skills.
• Schedules, attends and presents at placement meetings.
• Confers with teachers and parents whenever necessary.
• Performs all other related duties as required.

Job Description

QUALIFICATIONS: Minimum of a Master's degree and valid South Carolina Educator Certification in Secondary School Counseling.

LOCATION: Bates Middle School

REPORTS TO: Building Principal

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Works with students individually, in small groups, and in the classroom.

2. Guides in the decision making processes concerning academics and personal/social development.
