Job summary

Hen House, part of the Balls Food Stores family, is seeking a reliable Meat Clerk to join our meat department. You will help keep products fresh, well-stocked, and attractively presented while guiding guests to the right cuts and solutions.

This fast-paced role rewards hands-on involvement with fresh products, active movement, and a service-first approach. You will work with teammates to deliver quality guest experiences and support store performance.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Flexible schedule including evenings, weekends and holidays.
• Experience in grocery, retail, food service, or meat/seafood departments preferred.
• Knowledge of food safety and sanitation standards preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provide friendly, helpful, and respectful guest service at all times to ensure a positive shopping experience.
• Package and label meat products accurately in compliance with weight, pricing, and regulatory guidelines.
• Assist guests with product selection, custom cuts where applicable, and cooking recommendations.
• Stock, rotate, and face products using FIFO methods to maintain freshness and presentation.
• Monitor product dates, storage conditions, and temperature logs to maintain quality.
• Maintain clean, organized, and fully stocked service cases and displays.
• Ensure proper handling, storage, and temperature control of all meat products.
• Follow all food safety, sanitation, and personal hygiene standards.
• Operate equipment such as scales, wrappers, scanners, and basic cutting tools safely and accurately.
• Develop and maintain knowledge of meat products, pricing, and promotions to better assist guests and drive sales.
• Monitor inventory levels and communicate low, excess, or damaged items to leadership.
• Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment on both sales floor and backroom.
• Communicate clearly and respectfully with teammates, leadership, and vendors to support efficient operations.
• Collaborate across departments to support store performance and guest satisfaction.
• Adhere to all company policies and procedures, including attendance and dress code standards.
• Remain productive during slower periods by cleaning, organizing, restocking, or supporting other departments.
