Job summary

Pratt & Whitney, a RTX company in the aerospace and defense sector, seeks an experienced design engineer to lead IBRs/Rotors design on a GTF program. You will drive design across cycles, work with IPTs, and mentor junior engineers while improving repairability and manufacturability.

The role requires a Mechanical or Aerospace degree with 5+ years of design experience (or advanced degree with 3+ years), familiarity with hardware, blueprints, and manufacturing methods, and U.S. citizenship.

Responsibilities

  • Design support across all phases of the design cycle, preliminary through detailed design, validation, manufacturing, and operational service
  • Work on the designs of components within HPC modules (Rotors, airfoils, cases, frames, kinematics)
  • Support existing GTF fleets through enhanced component commonality and optimization
  • Expand repairability/maintainability for customers and MRO facilities and support test/verification of field issues
  • Design and implement common procedures and standard work to optimize efficiency and quality
  • Review layouts, calculate stack-up, and perform major cost studies to meet objectives and budgets
  • Resolve design problems and coordinate interrelated design to ensure project completion
  • Provide technical leadership on IPTs and mentor junior engineers
  • Communicate with engineering personnel to coordinate design and project completion

The GTF HPC Design team is seeking an experienced engineer to support IBRs/Rotors design. The role will provide an opportunity take on a design lead role for IBRs/Rotors, and work within the team and IPT to drive improvements in design, address technical issues, support production ramp, and engage with multiple disciplines in support of the aforementioned. Prior experience in Fan/LPC and/or HPC Rotor or IBR Design is preferred.

What You Will Do

Design support across all phases of the design cycle, preliminary through detailed design, validation, manufacturing, and operational service and will work on the designs of any component within the HPC modules (i.e. Rotors, airfoils, cases, frames, kinematics, etc…)

Support the existing installed GTF fleets through enhanced commonality and optimization of components to ensure that the current and future needs of the business and customer are met.

Expand repairability/maintainability for our customers and MRO facilities as well as work with quality clinics and related departments to support the test and verification of field issues

Design and implement common procedures and standard work across the organization to optimize efficiency and quality.

Design and review layouts of components, calculate stack-up of detail components, and perform major cost studies consisting of new or existing details and/or marked prints and all supporting documentation, when necessary, to facilitate operations and ensure that established objectives and budgets are achieved.

Resolve design problems of difficult-to-complex scope to ensure project completion as well as review completed layouts and drawings to ensure clarity, completeness, conformity to standards, procedures, specifications, and accuracy of calculations and dimensioning.

Communicate with the other engineering personnel to coordinate the interrelated design and ensure project completion.

Also, provide technical leadership on IPT’s and when required, assist in training less experienced engineers to help them diagnose and solve problems and build capabilities.

Qualifications
  • B.S. in Mechanical or Aerospace engineering with 5+ years of Mechanical Design engineering experience OR Advanced degree with 3+ years of experience
  • Experience with hardware, reading blueprints, and manufacturing methods
  • U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are authorized to access information under this program/contract
We Prefer
  • M.S. in Mechanical or Aerospace engineering
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills
  • Experience with IBRs or rotors
  • Experience with engineering standard work
  • Experience with Engineering Change Processes (Class I, Class II, Must Conform, etc)
  • Proficiency in FEA, and/or classical methods of analysis
  • Proficiency in Teamcenter, NX

The salary range for this role is 86,800 USD - 165,200 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
