Job summary

Capac Community Schools in Capac, MI is seeking a dedicated preschool assistant to support the Lead Teacher in operating a high-quality, state-funded preschool classroom for 4-year-olds at Capac Elementary School. The role focuses on developmental growth and school readiness while maintaining a safe, inclusive learning environment.

The position requires an Associate’s Degree or CDA, experience with young children, strong communication skills, and the ability to follow lesson plans, observe

Qualifications

  • Associate’s Degree in Early Childhood Education/Child Development or a valid CDA credential.
  • Previous experience working with 4-year-old children is preferred.
  • Ability to develop and maintain a professional rapport with students, parents, staff, and the community.
  • Negative TB test; first aid and CPR training required.
  • Clear criminal history check, physical, and drug test may be required.
  • Alternatives to the above qualifications, as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in implementing daily lesson plans, preparing materials, and facilitating small group activities.
  • Assist and support children in the GSRP program while providing a safe, friendly environment; flexibility in responding to the individual needs of children.
  • Support children’s emotional and social development, encouraging understanding of others and positive self-concepts.
  • Assist with child observations, documentation, and data entry for child assessments (e.g., TS Gold).
  • Participate in home visits, parent-teacher conferences, and other family engagement events.
  • Adhere to licensing regulations, GSRP standards, and perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies while modeling district standards of ethics and professionalism; implement policy/procedural changes from administration, the Board of Education, or state/federal changes.
  • Computer, organizational, and multi-tasking skills are required, as well as strong communication skills.
  • Must complete 24 clock hours of training annually.
  • Must be able to perform the physical demands of this position, which includes sitting, standing, extensive walking, twisting, talking, seeing, and hearing. Occasionally, it will be expected to repeat the same body, hand, arm, or finger motions many times and push or lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Performs other functions and duties as assigned by the supervisor.
