Job summary

Sanford Airport Authority seeks a skilled Ground Support Equipment (GSE) technician to perform routine maintenance, inspections, and repairs on a wide range of GSE used in airport operations at Sanford. You will diagnose mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues, maintain records, and ensure all equipment remains in safe, reliable condition in compliance with FAA regulations.

The role requires operating various motorized and non-motorized GSE, collaborating with teams, and adhering to safety

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Technical/ vocational training in automotive or aviation mechanics is a plus.
  • Proven ability to read electrical and hydraulic schematics.

Responsibilities

  • Perform maintenance, repairs, and inspections on GSE as part of daily duties.
  • Diagnose mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues using diagnostic tools.
  • Maintain accurate service records and parts usage for all GSE.
  • Respond to emergency repair calls and ensure safe operation of equipment.
  • Comply with FAA regs, airport safety standards, and internal policies.
  • Operate and drive all types of GSE equipment as needed.

Job description

Perform maintenance, repairs, and inspections on a wide range of ground support equipment used in airport operations. Ensure all GSE is in safe, reliable working condition to support efficient airport activities while adhering to FAA regulations and airport safety standards.ESSENTIAL DUTIES:Comply with all Federal, provincial, municipal, airport authority and carrier security requirements.Conduct routine maintenance and repairs on various GSE, including baggage tugs, belt loaders, pushback tractors, ground power units, air conditioning units.Perform scheduled inspections and preventive maintenance on GSEDiagnose mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues using diagnostic tools and equipment.Execute repairs and replacements of GSE components as neededMaintain accurate records of all maintenance activities, parts usage and equipment statusRespond promptly to emergency repair calls and equipment breakdownsEnsure compliance with all safety procedures, FAA regulations, and airport policiesAssist in Maintaining a clean and organized work area.Collaborate with team members and other departments to ensure efficient GSE operationsParticipate in ongoing training to stay current with new technologies and repair techniquesMust be able to operate and drive all types of various GSE equipment motorized and non-motorized.OTHER DUTIES:Perform or assist with any operations, as required to maintain workflow and to meet schedules and quality requirements. Notify supervision of unusual equipment or operating problems and the need for additional material and supplies.Maintain safe work area and comply with safety procedures and equipment operating rules keeping work area in a clean and orderly condition.Participate in any variety of meetings and work groups to integrate activities communicate issues obtain approvals, resolve problems and maintain specified level of knowledge pertaining to new developments, requirements and policies.Perform other duties as assigned.Able to research and other parts needed from certain vendors.Able to use fleet maintenance programWilling to work outside in all weather conditions year-round.TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT USED:Hand tools: Such as Wrenches (various sizes and types), screwdrivers, pliers, socket sets, hammers, pry bars and Allen keys.Power tools: such as impact wrenches, drills, grinders, and pneumatic toolsDiagnostic equipment: such as multimeters, OBD-II scanners, pressure gauges, leak detectorsLifting and support equipment: Hydraulic pressure testers, batter load testers, fuel injection testers, tire changing equipment.Safety equipment: Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), Fire Extinguishers, spill containment kitsCleaning Equipment: Parts washers, pressure washersWelding and cutting equipment: Welding machines and cutting torches a plus but not preferred.Lubrication equipment: Grease guns, oil dispensersComputer systems: Laptops or tablets for accessing repair manuals and recording maintenance dataSpecialty tools for specific GSE: Belt Tension Gauges, torque wrenches, electrical system testersASE CertificationsExperience with electrical and alternative fuel GSEKnowledge of Florida’s Climate-related challenges for equipment maintenanceBasic Computer skills for record keeping and parts ordering.Ability to read an electrical schematic and hydraulic schematicEDUCATION:Highschool diploma or equivalent Required.Technical school certification in automotive or aviation mechanics or trade school training or completion and/or mechanical background a plus but not preferredREQUIRED:Ability to pass Federal Fingerprint Background Check - the Federal Fingerprint Background Check is not limited to 7 years but checks your entire lifetime. Felonies will not be cleared.Ability to pass a 10 Panel Drug Test - The Full Panel Drug Test DOES include testing for THC.
