Job summary

Firefly Aerospace is hiring a Ground Support Equipment Manufacturing Engineer at our Briggs, TX site. You will coordinate fabrication, supplier relationships, and NDE considerations for non-flight hardware across launch platforms.

The role requires 1–3 years in manufacturing with welded assemblies, CAD experience (Siemens NX preferred), and GD&T knowledge. You will engage with engineers, technicians, and purchasers to ensure on-time, cost-effective builds.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or related technical field.
  • 1–3 years in manufacturing environment with welded structures, pipe/tube assemblies, large precision machines, sheet metal bending and cutting.
  • Knowledge of common NDE methods for weldments: Fluorescent Dye Penetrant, Magnetic Particle, Ultrasonic.
  • Experience with CAD software (Siemens NX preferred).
  • Experience with Odoo or other comparable ERP system.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and assembly instructions.
  • Strong interpersonal and conflict resolution skills; excellent communication.
  • Knowledge of GD&T and familiarity with ASME Y14.5.
  • Familiarity with fluid system components (valves, tubing, piping, flanges).

Responsibilities

  • Own and improve the work order process from engineering release to fabrication completion.
  • Interact with technicians to reconcile design intent vs as-built.
  • Make/buy decisions to hit budget and schedule requirements.
  • Manage supplier and internal customer relationships.
  • Participate in design reviews for operability, serviceability, and manufacturability.
  • Create and maintain milestone-based build schedules for stakeholders.
  • Identify and disposition non-conformances in the build lifecycle.
  • Assist design engineers by creating mBOMs, RFQs, and managing virtual inventory.

As a Ground Support Equipment (GSE) Manufacturing Engineer, you will coordinate the procurement and fabrication of a massive portfolio of hardware supporting all of Firefly’s endeavors. The GSE Department is responsible for the design and fabrication of nearly all non-flight hardware for launch vehicles, spacecraft, and R&D, including (but not limited to) launch sites, test stands, transport fixtures, manufacturing and assembly jigs, and payload integration systems. Firefly’s GSE team supports every major program at Firefly: Alpha Launch, A330, Medium Launch, Blue Ghost, and Elytra. On a daily basis, you will work directly with senior leadership, engineers, welders, test technicians, purchasers, and contractors to facilitate high quality, cost-effective, and on-time GSE builds. You will have the opportunity to leverage your knowledge of materials and fabrication techniques to influence and drive simplicity, manufacturability, and operability into mechanical and fluid systems. This position is located at our rocket manufacturing site in Briggs, TX, just north of Cedar Park.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Own and improve upon existing work order process to improve efficiency between engineering drawing release and completion of fabrication, including drawing review, material procurement, material organization & kitting, Non-Destructive Testing, assembly, proof testing, coating, and commissioning.
  • Direct interaction with technicians to reconcile differences in design intent vs as-built.
  • Performing make/buy decisions to hit project budget & schedule requirements
  • Establish, manage, and leverage relationships with key suppliers and internal customers
  • Participation in design reviews, providing feedback on design for operability, serviceability, and manufacturability
  • Creation and upkeep of milestone-based schedules to communicate build progress to stakeholders
  • Identification and dispositioning of potential non-conformances found throughout the build lifecycle
  • Assist design engineers by creating mBOM's, creating RFQ's, and managing virtual inventory.

QUALIFICATIONS

Required

  • Bachelors degree in Engineering or related technical field
  • Must have -1-3 years job experience not including internships, for manufacturing environment, working directly with welded structural assemblies, pipe & tube assemblies, large precision machines, sheet steel bending & cutting.
  • Knowledge of common NDE methods for weldments, including but not limited to: Fluorescent Dye Penetrant, Magnetic Particle, and Ultrasonic Methods
  • Experience with CAD software (Siemens NX preferred)
  • Experience with Odoo or other comparable ERP System
  • Organizational skills to consolidate and communicate progress and complex systems and deliverables
  • Knowledge of GD&T & familiarity with ASME Y14.5
  • Working/functional knowledge of basic fluid system components (i.e. valves, tubing, piping, flanges).
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills to convey methodologies for assembly and troubleshooting
  • Able to read and interpret technical drawings and assembly instructions
  • Strong interpersonal and conflict resolution skills
  • Ability to thrive in high stakes, stressful, short deadline environments
  • Critical thinking and strong decision making ability

Desired

  • Familiarity with AWS D1.1 & D17.1
  • Ability to lift 40lbs
  • Experience working at outdoor job sites and on shop floors, directly with technicians and welders
  • Experience operating or working near mobile equipment such as forklifts and cranes
  • Lift and Rigging experience
