Job summary

GMRE is seeking a hands-on Controller to lead accounting operations and actively participate in day-to-day accounting activities. The role balances strategic oversight with transactional excellence to build scalable processes supporting GMRE's growth, including government contracting compliance.

The successful candidate will serve as the technical accounting expert, partner with the Director of Finance, strengthen internal controls, and drive efficient close cycles across multi-state operations.

Qualifications

• Experience leading month-end close and financial reporting.
• Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP and internal controls.
• Experience managing audits and external audits.
• Ability to mentor accounting staff and develop processes.

Responsibilities

• Lead monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes.
• Ensure timely, accurate financial reporting in accordance with U.S. GAAP.
• Maintain the integrity of the general ledger and supporting schedules.
• Review journal entries, reconciliations, and financial analyses.
• Ensure balance sheet accuracy through timely reconciliations and account analysis.
• Improve close procedures and accounting workflows.
• Support cash management activities and banking coordination with Finance Director.
• Serve as the technical accounting expert and apply new guidance.
• Coordinate annual tax preparation with external CPA firms.
• Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local tax requirements.
• Support indirect rate development and government contracting compliance.
