Job summary

Defined Fitness Inc. in Santa Fe, NM is looking for a Group X Instructor to educate and lead members in group fitness classes. The role emphasizes safe, energetic instruction and a welcoming atmosphere for participants of all levels.

You will sub for other instructors as needed, adapt workouts for various abilities, and contribute to a positive gym experience with clean facilities and supportive supervision.

Qualifications

• Minimum of one group fitness certification in various formats.
• CPR/AED certification required by first day of employment.
• Nationally recognized fitness certification preferred (ACE/AFAA/ASCM, etc.)

Responsibilities

• Ensure a safe, energetic and appropriately structured class format and demonstrate warm-ups.
• Ensure classes start and end on schedule and assist members before/after class.
• Available to assist other instructors by subbing classes and securing substitutes.
• Regularly add variety to class by changing music, routine, exercises, etc.
• Offer modifications to meet physical abilities and limitations.
• Attend mandatory quarterly/department meetings.
• Provide feedback to management on equipment safety.
• Maintain a clean, safe facility in group exercise rooms.
• Read club correspondence and seek clarification if needed.
• Adhere to all safety rules and precautions for members and staff.

Position Overview

As a Group X instructor, you have explosive enthusiasm, and a larger-than-life presence. The Group X Instructor is responsible for educating and leading members in group fitness classes. They focus on assisting members in achieving their fitness goals in a safe and friendly manner. You will provide personal attention and professional instruction reflecting the most current information in the industry while demonstrating the following qualities:

Essential Functions & Responsibilities

• Ensure a safe, energetic and appropriately structured class format and demonstrate warm-ups
• Ensure classes start and end class as scheduled while providing time before and after class to ensure members’ needs are met and answer questions
• Available to assist other instructors by subbing classes and follow procedure for securing substitutes
• Regularly add variety to class by changing music, routine, exercises, etc.
• Offer modifications to meet physical abilities and limitations
• Attend mandatory quarterly, departmental, or other required meetings
• Provide feedback to management on the condition and safety of group exercise equipment
• Assist in maintaining a clean safe facility in the group exercise rooms
• Read all club correspondence distributed to instructors and seek clarification, if needed
• Adhere to all safety rules and guidelines and take necessary precautions to ensure safety of all members and team members

Qualifications

• Minimum of one (1) group fitness certification(s) in various formats (LesMills, SilverSneakers, Zumba, Aqua, Cycling, Pilates, 200-hour yoga, small group training or other format).and maintained throughout employment
• Valid CPR/AED certification, infant and child, by first day of employment and maintain throughout employment
• Hold a nationally recognized certification such as ACE, AFAA, ASCM, AEA, NSCA, etc. preferred
• Previous experience as a group exercise class instructor preferred
• PC literate, including Microsoft Office and various other products such as ABC

Physical Requirements

• Must be able to safely perform rigorous physical activity to meet the demands of class objectives
• Must be able to lift and carry approximately 50 pounds
• Must be able to perform the following tasks: walking, squatting, bending, stooping, standing, listening, speaking, reading and writing
