Job description

The Division of Child and Family Services is recruiting for multiple Group Supervisor 4 positions for Caliente Youth Center.

Group Supervisor 4's oversee the activities of youths within an assigned unit. Directly observe work habits, social behavior, and attitudes to ensure compliance with institutional rules and regulations. Provide guidance and assistance with assignments, appropriate behavior, proper dress, and personal hygiene. Participate as a member of the treatment team in implementing treatment plans and document youths’ progress and concerns.

Conduct intake interviews, review case history files, and complete required intake forms and documentation regarding personal, medical, and family history. Interview youths and document personality traits and functioning levels. Provide immediate needs, including clothing, supplies, and room assignments. Orient and instruct youths on unit rules and regulations. Conduct physical searches of youths and their possessions for unauthorized items and contraband.

Perform security checks of assigned units to ensure the safety and security of youths and the facility. Conduct head counts, room and body searches, and checks of windows and doors. Secure resident areas to prevent escapes and identify controlled substances, contraband, or weapons. Document actions and report abnormalities to supervisors.

Respond to emergency situations, including searches for runaway youths and providing first aid. Implement appropriate verbal, behavioral, or physical interventions to manage aggressive, hostile, or violent behavior in accordance with applicable laws, policies, and procedures. Notify appropriate personnel of actions taken and complete required documentation.

Maintain individual case records documenting youths’ behaviors and activities. Complete incident reports, chronological reports, accountability lists, off-grounds reports, personal account logs, money withdrawal requests, clothing records, and other required documentation for review and placement in case files.

Instruct youths in life, educational, vocational, and pre-employment skills using prescribed methods. Provide training in areas such as fire suppression, culinary procedures, laundry, and first aid. Assist with homework and monitor, evaluate, and report youths’ progress.

Participate in activities and serve as a positive role model. Officiate events, provide individual or team instruction, explain rules, secure and set up equipment, arrange transportation as required, and coordinate schedules with the facility’s overall programs and security needs.

Under limited supervision, perform the full range of duties within the series, supervise Group Supervisor II and III staff, and oversee the daily operations of an assigned unit.

Supervisory responsibilities include preparing work schedules, coordinating staff assignments, monitoring staff performance through direct observation and review of logs and reports, conducting performance reviews, and providing training and direction in counseling techniques, report writing, record keeping, and institutional policies and procedures. Prepare documentation for first-level disciplinary actions.

Monitor assigned units for security and safety concerns, maintenance and repair needs, and adequate supplies. Prepare and submit work orders and supply requests as necessary.

Perform related duties as assigned.

Group Supervisors perform duties involving the education, employment, training, treatment, care and custody of juvenile offenders residing within a State Youth Training Center; maintain comprehensive records of assigned youths’ program activities; and provide individual guidance pursuant to State or federal laws and regulations.Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in psychology, social work, sociology, counseling and guidance, human services, social services, education, criminal justice or closely related field and two years of experience working with youth in a custodial, employment program, therapeutic, educational, recreational program or correctional setting with responsibility for performing vocational assessments, making oral presentations during group sessions and treatment team meetings, and providing vocational and life skills training to juvenile offenders; OR graduation from high school or equivalent education and four years of experience as described above; OR one year as a Group Supervisor III in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above.

Monitoring responsibilities include inspecting the unit for security and safety violations, needed maintenance, repairs and supplies, and preparing and submitting work orders and supply requests as required. This is the supervisory level in the series.
