Job summary

Commonpoint Queens is seeking a Group Leader to provide supervision and safety for neurodiverse children at the Sam Field Center in Little Neck, NY. This part-time position involves managing a group room, developing treatment plans, and ensuring activities are carried out safely.

About the Role

The Group Leader, within the Special Services Department, provides daily supervision and safety for a group of neurodiverse children with special needs, guiding youth workers to deliver age‑appropriate activities and maintaining compliance with regulatory requirements.

Agency Expectations
  • Support agency initiatives by carrying out assigned duties accurately and efficiently, following established processes and contributing to data collection, reporting, or documentation as required.
  • Use agency resources responsibly by following established procedures, safeguarding equipment and materials, and supporting cost‑effective operations.
  • Work effectively with supervisors, coworkers, and cross‑department teams to ensure clear communication, timely task completion, and a positive, respectful work environment.
  • Follow safety protocols, policies, and procedures to maintain a safe work environment for staff, partners, and the public, and promptly report concerns or incidents.
Role Expectations
  • Lead the management of the group room.
  • Develop individualized, age‑appropriate treatment plans for each child and maintain monthly progress notes that meet regulatory compliance.
  • Ensure the daily schedule of activities is implemented and provide visuals for the group.
  • Engage youth workers with the children at all times.
  • Record daily attendance of children and submit accurate and completed Medicaid billing sheets to the Director within designated time periods.
  • Provide individualized therapeutic interventions as needed.
  • Communicate any unusual behavior or physical concerns to the Program Manager and document it on ABC sheets and progress notes.
  • Communicate with the Assistant Director for all changes in behaviors or physical conditions of the children.
  • Meet regularly with the staff in their room to provide direction and support in program operations.
  • Maintain an inventory of supplies and equipment necessary for planned programming.
  • Foster accountability and responsibility for the health and safety of children and staff in the room.
  • Serve as a role model to staff and children.
Qualifications & Key Attributes
  • Minimum Qualifications: At least 18 years of age.
  • Preferred Qualifications: Previous experience in a Commonpoint role; experience with neurodiverse individuals; BA in a related field.
  • Key Attributes: Consistently prepares for work, follows through on responsibilities, meets expectations within timelines; responds effectively to changing priorities, learns new tasks quickly, applies feedback to improve performance; adheres to safety protocols and represents the agency professionally in all interactions.
Compensation & Benefits

Commonpoint offers competitive base salaries benchmarked against comparable nonprofit organizations in the New York metropolitan area. Salaries are determined based on internal and external equity, position scope, qualifications, and organizational impact. New hires typically start near the beginning of the salary range, allowing growth based on performance, professional development, and tenure. Part‑time rate: $21 per hour.

  • Primarily indoor work environment with occasional outdoor activities and field trips.

  • May assist participants with mobility, transitions, or adaptive equipment as needed.
