Job summary

The Goddard School located at 315 Avenue C in Stuytown, NY is seeking passionate Lead Teachers to guide groups of 1 or 2 year olds. You will implement our Wonder of Learning curriculum, lead daily activities, and collaborate with a supportive team to foster growth and inquiry.

Qualifications

  • AA/AS or CDA or equivalent with plan toward degree in ECE within seven years.
  • GED with specific ECE credits or related infant/toddler experience as outlined.
  • Must have state-required pre-service training completed.
  • Ability to relate well with children, families and faculty members.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs in handling children.

Responsibilities

Lead Teacher Key Responsibilities:
  • Curriculum and Instruction: Implement age-appropriate lesson plans and activities using our proprietary Wonder of Learning® curriculum to engage and support each child’s growth
  • Classroom Management: Create and maintain a safe, nurturing, and inclusive classroom environment
  • Family Communication: Maintain open, effective and positive communication with families and guardians about their child’s progress and daily activities
  • Health and Safety: Supervise children during indoor and outdoor activities to uphold health and safety standards, licensing regulations and ensure their well-being
  • Professional Development: Participate actively in ongoing professional development and training opportunities to enhance teaching skills
  • Assessment and Documentation: Observe, assess and document children’s learning and development to inform activities and share insights with families
  • Team Collaboration: Support Assistant Teachers and Resource Teachers, fostering a collaborative and positive team environment.
  • Behavior Guidance: Model and implement positive guidance strategies to support social-emotional growth and conflict resolution.
Qualifications for leading a classroom of 1 or 2 Year Old- A group teacher for an infant/toddler program shall be at least 21 years of age and have the following qualifications:
  • Associate's (AA or AS) degree in early childhood education; or
  • Child Development Associate (CDA) certification and a study plan leading to an associate's degree in early childhood education within seven years; or
  • High school diploma or equivalent (GED); nine college credits in early childhood education or child development; two years’ experience caring for children, and a study plan leading to an associate's degree in early childhood education within seven years; or
  • High school diploma or equivalent (GED) and five years of supervised experience in an infant/toddler classroom if currently employed in a permitted child care program; or
  • High school diploma or equivalent (GED); and a study plan that is acceptable to the Department leading to nine credits in early childhood education or childhood development within two years; and a study plan leading to an associate's degree in early childhood education within seven years, if currently employed in a permitted child care program.
  • Has successfully completed state-required pre-service training
  • Develops relationships and communicates effectively with children, families and faculty members
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. in connection with the handling of children

  • Each classroom is also given a monthly budget of $50 to order/purchase items for that months lesson plans and the classroom.
  • Our Director’s set aside time to meet with each teacher individually and create a growth plan that will help support your career goals and aspirations whether they are within or outside of our school. Each teacher’s growth plan will be supported with regular follow up from the leadership team, training opportunities, and mentorship from either the directors or fellow co-teachers.
