Job summary

Holy Name Medical Center is seeking a Group Fitness Instructor to design and lead engaging, safe group classes for all levels. You will follow program guidelines, demonstrate proper technique, and adapt activities to individual needs while upholding excellent customer service for HNH Fitness members.

Required qualifications include a high school diploma, 3–5 years of training experience, and an NCCA-accredited certification with CPR.

Qualifications

• High school education required; college degree preferred.
• 3–5 years’ experience in training or exercise instruction preferred.
• NCCA-accredited certification required as per program guidelines.
• CPR certification required; CPTR/Personal Trainer credential preferred.

Responsibilities

• Create and lead dynamic group fitness classes for all levels, with proper cueing and safety.
• Maintain communication with Staff Managers regarding class and program issues.
• Teach correct technique and provide modifications for individual needs.
• Ensure equipment is safe; report damaged items promptly.
• Provide exceptional customer service to Holy Name Fitness members and guests.
• Arrive early for class setup; start and end classes on time; maintain cleanliness and organization.

A Brief Overview

Group Fitness Instructors have a passion for exercise and helping others. They have the desire and ability to educate and motivate groups of people who might not otherwise become engaged in physical activity. This job requires knowledge of exercise science along with the ability to demonstrate and communicate information that leads to exercise adherence. They are able to empower people toward making lifestyle changes.

What You Will Do

• Responsible for creating and leading, dynamic, effective and safe group fitness classes for all levels, while maintaining the appropriate class format. This includes proper counting, cueing, choreography and much more.
• Maintain communication with appropriate Staff Managers regarding all fitness members and/or program issues.
• Follow your NCCA accredited certification for program guidelines.
• Teach correct technique and provide exercise modifications to address individual needs.
• Notify appropriate Staff Manager of any damaged or misplaced exercise tools and/or equipment.
• Provide feedback and positive re-enforcement throughout the class session, keeping focus on the clients. The instructor is responsible for giving the members a positive class experience.
• Provide exceptional customer service to all HNH Fitness members and guests in a friendly and professional manner.
• All instructors are responsible for finding coverage for his/her class in the event of illness or vacation. All coverage must be approved by department manager.
• Instructors are required to arrive early for class to allow enough time for proper set up and to greet class participants.
• Start and end class on time.
• Instruct your class participants to keep classrooms clean and equipment organized for easy access and safety of all.
• Keep music levels at 85 decibels or below (industry standard)
• Understand and work within your “scope of practice” as a GFI
• Know gym first aid and safety procedures. Be prepared for emergency situations and respond appropriately.
• Protect participants confidentiality according to HIPPAA
• Be familiar with HNH Fitness Par-q and waivers
• Understand gym class sign-in procedures

College Graduate Preferred

Experience Qualifications

• 3-5 years’ experience in Training / Exercise instruction preferred
