Job summary

YMCA of Greater Boston invites applications for an on-site Les Mills BODYPUMP Instructor position at the Wang YMCA. Instructors must hold Les Mills BODYPUMP certification and have substantial hands-on experience teaching fitness classes to members.

The role requires readiness to work at various hours per branch operations, with safety awareness and the ability to manage equipment and emergency responses. Knowledge of diverse populations is valued, along with a strong service mindset.

Qualifications

  • Les Mills BODYPUMP certification required.
  • High school education or equivalent preferred.
  • Minimum 25 hours of practical experience as a fitness class instructor (6-week training/shadowing).
  • Ability to respond to safety and emergency situations.
  • Ability to set up, move and store class equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Plans for and instructs wellness/fitness classes following YMCA standards.
  • Develops positive relationships with participants and fosters engagement.
  • Increases awareness of healthy lifestyle factors among participants.
  • Encourages involvement and recruits volunteers.
  • Setting up and taking down class equipment; report equipment issues.
  • Attend staff meetings and trainings as required.
  • Ensure safe, effective workouts and report incidents.

Job Summary

*This is an on-site position

Instructs Les Mills BODYPUMP Instructor exercise classes for YMCA members. Instructors must be Les Mills certified.

Qualifications
  • Les Mills BODYPUMP certification.
  • High school education or equivalent preferred.
  • Twenty-five hours of practical experience as fitness class instructor, or equivalent (6-week instructor training course-shadowing experience).
  • Ability to respond to safety and emergency situations.
  • Ability to set up, move and store class equipment.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Current state approved first aid certification. *
  • Current state approved CPR for the Professional Rescuer certification.*

Knowledge of, and previous experience with diverse populations (language, culture, race, physical ability, sexual orientation, etc.). Ability to speak any language in addition to English may be helpful.

  • YMCA Healthy Lifestyles Principles, Foundations of YMCA Group Exercise** or previous YMCA or outside certification.
  • Listen First Level I* and II** training.

* Within 30 days of employment or at first available training.

** Within 90 days of employment or at first available training.

Other combinations of applicable education, training, and experience which provide the knowledge, abilities, and skills necessary to perform effectively in the position may be considered.
