Job summary

Rose E. Schneider Family YMCA in Cranberry Township, PA is seeking a certified Group Exercise Instructor (part-time) to lead classes in a safe, enjoyable, and inclusive environment. The position requires YMCA or national group fitness certification, CPR/First Aid/AED, and at least 1 year of teaching experience.

Expect daytime, evening, and weekend hours. Applicants must bring a copy of their certification to the interview.

Qualifications

• HS diploma or equivalent required.
• Minimum age of 18.
• YMCA Group Exercise Instructor certification or national certification in group fitness instruction (ACE, NETA, AFAA, NASM) required.
• Certification in area of expertise required.
• Current CPR/First Aid/AED certification required.
• Healthy Living Online Certification completed within 60 days of hire.
• At least one year of experience teaching group exercise preferred.

Responsibilities

• Lead energizing, fun, safe, and educational group classes, as directed by the supervisor, to accomplish the YMCA mission and goals.
• Ask and answer questions from program participants and members to support them in achieving their health and well-being goals.
• Maintain working knowledge of wellness trends to provide effective information and support to members.
• Build authentic relationships with members; help members and program participants connect with each other and the YMCA.
• Observe and adjust approach to support all participants’ capabilities, health, and culture.
• Celebrate achievement of program participants related to program or personal goals.
• Keep accurate class attendance records.
• Attend all staff meetings and approved trainings as required.
• Follow YMCA policies and procedures, including those related to medical and disciplinary situations.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

The Group Exercise Instructor instructs group classes in a safe, enjoyable, and positive environment that welcomes people of all skill and fitness levels. Effectively builds community within the class. Modifies class as needed to meet varied health, ability and cultural needs. This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• High School diploma or equivalent; required.
• Minimum age of 18; required.
• YMCA Group Exercise Instructor certification or National certification in group fitness instruction (e.g., ACE, NETA, AFAA, NASM); is required.
• Certification in area of expertise; required.
• Current CPR/First Aid/AED Certification; required.
• YMCA Healthy Living Online Certification completion within 60 days of hire.
• At least one year of experience teaching group exercise classes; preferred.
• Ability to develop positive, authentic relationships with people from different backgrounds.

• Perform other duties as assigned.
