Job summary

The Harris-Galveston Subsidence District in Friendswood, TX seeks a Permitting Specialist I to support groundwater well permitting—review permit applications, registrations, and annual reports, and prepare monthly hearing notices and board documents, while communicating with permittees and drillers. This non-exempt, full-time position runs 8:00am–5:00pm, Monday–Friday.

An Associate’s degree is required; a Bachelor’s degree or 2–4 years of related experience is preferred.

Qualifications

  • Education/Experience requirements: Associate’s degree required; Bachelor’s preferred; or 2–4 years related experience.
  • Language ability: English reading/writing; bilingual English/Spanish preferred.
  • Math ability: basic calculations for discounts, percentages.
  • Reasoning ability: solve practical problems and improve workflow.
  • Computer skills: MS Word, MS Excel, MS Explorer, MS Access.

Responsibilities

  • Review, verify, and process permit applications and well registrations.
  • Archive submitted information in permit tracking system and repository.
  • Enter annual report information and archive it.
  • Communicate professionally with permittees, applicants, and the public.
  • Manage returned mail.
  • Duties as assigned by Deputy General Manager.
