Job summary

ISA Certified Arborist in Chesapeake, VA is seeking a full-time Groundsperson to support vegetation management and storm restoration. You will operate trucks and equipment, set up staging areas, feed brush into a woodchipper, and load debris for removal. A valid driver's license is required; CDL preferred. Background checks and drug screening may be required.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
• Experience in electric utility vegetation management, construction, logging, landscaping, mechanical, or military industries preferred.
• Valid Driver’s license required. CDL preferred.

Responsibilities

• Follow safe practices and enforce rules.
• Work from ground to keep area clear of debris using saws and pruners.
• Define staging areas and set up/break down materials and tools.
• Feed brush into woodchipper and load logs, brush, and debris.
• Operate trucks and equipment; perform basic maintenance.
• Safeguard employees and public from hazards; flag traffic.
• Work long hours, overtime during emergencies.

• Pay or shift range: $18 USD to $19 USD
  This is an estimated pay range for this position. Final offers are based on various factors, including skill set, experience, location, qualifications and other job-related reasons.

Description

• Always follow and help enforce safe practice and rules.
• Works from the ground to keep work area clear of debris using handsaws, pole saws and pruners, hand pruners, loppers, and gasoline-powered equipment to cut brush and trees.
• Define staging areas.
• Setting up and breaking down material, tools, and equipment as required.
• Prepare and feed brush into woodchipper.
• Loading and unloading trucks with logs, stumps, brush, and debris
• Operating various trucks and equipment as assigned.
• Perform basic maintenance service on trucks and equipment; keep trucks and other assigned equipment in neat and orderly fashion; report the need for major repairs to truck and equipment.
• Tying knots, rope breaks, and speed lines according to industry standard.
• Safeguard employees and the public from hazards in and around the work area.
• Flag traffic to protect employees and the public from potential harm or injury.
• Able to work long hours and overtime during emergencies.

This is a full-time position. Specific hours will be assigned by your supervisor. The Groundsperson may be required to work overtime and/or weekends.

Education and Experience
