Job summary

City of Murfreesboro in Tennessee is seeking a parks maintenance worker to maintain parks, grounds, buildings, athletic fields and related facilities within the Recreation Department.

The role requires English communication, a valid driver’s license, mowing, trash pickup, restroom and pavilion upkeep, equipment servicing, and light repairs; candidate should have a high school diploma or GED and landscaping experience.

Qualifications

• Requires a high school diploma or GED, which may be waived by work experience.
• Experience in landscaping or closely related field preferred.
• Must have a valid driver’s license.

Responsibilities

• Communicate with others in spoken and written English for safe and efficient operations.
• Mow/cut grass with power equipment and riding mowers.
• Open/close park gates, restrooms and prepare fields for use.
• Load/unload dirt, gravel and debris.
• Clean, maintain and service equipment and tools.
• Picks up trash in park areas and disposes of it properly.
• Clean/restock restrooms, clean pavilions and prepare them for reservations.
• Maintain and perform light repairs on equipment, buildings and grounds; repair irrigation systems.
• Move and set up for park functions (tables, bleachers, chairs).
• Cut down and remove limbs/trees after weather events.
• Trim/spray weeds with herbicide; spread fertilizer.
• Install mulch and perform landscape trimming.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

This position is considered a Safety-Sensitive position. Applicants who pass the interview process will be subject to drug and alcohol testing.

The purpose of this position is to conduct maintenance and upkeep of the public parks, grounds, buildings, athletic fields and related facilities within the Recreation Department.

Essential Functions

• Must communicate with others in spoken and written English to ensure the safe and efficient operations of the business.
• Mows/cuts grass with power equipment, commercial riding mowers and weed eaters.
• Opens and closes park gates, restrooms and prepares fields for use.
• Loads and unloads dirt, gravel, and other debris.
• Cleans, maintains and services equipment and tools.
• Picks up trash in the parks areas and disposes of it properly.
• Cleans and restocks restrooms and cleans picnic pavilions and prepares them for reservations.
• Maintains and conducts light repair work on equipment, building and grounds; repairs irrigation systems.
• Moves and sets up for park functions requiring moving tables, bleachers, and chairs for concerts and special events.
• Cuts down and removes limbs, branches, and trees that have been damaged by adverse weather conditions.
• Trims and sprays weeds with herbicide; spreads fertilizer.
• Installs mulch and trims landscape.

• Performs other work as assigned.
