Job summary

Bluestem Communities Management Inc. is seeking a full-time Grounds Maintenance Worker to maintain campus grounds, operate various mowing and edging equipment, and perform minor repairs as needed.

Responsibilities include planting, trimming, irrigation, fertilization, pest control, landscape upkeep, and snow removal assistance when required. Applicants should be at least 18 years old with prior groundskeeping or turf experience and a valid KS driver’s license.

Qualifications

• Experience in groundskeeping and landscape maintenance.
• Ability to operate and maintain gas and electric lawn equipment.
• Familiarity with applying chemicals using proper PPE and safety protocols.
• Knowledge of maintaining grounds, planting, pruning, and seasonal care.

Responsibilities

• Operate mowing and edging equipment (gas powered walk behind and ride-on).
• Mow, trim, edge around trees, beds, sidewalks, and parking areas.
• Apply fertilizers, pesticides and manage irrigation installations with proper PPE.
• Install/maintain landscape lighting, signs, gates, and other landscape features.
• Maintain irrigation systems and drip irrigation scheduling.

This position also performs maintenance on groundskeeping equipment and makes minor repairs as directed.Essential Job Functions:Operate and maintain on all types of mowing and edging equipment including gas powered walk behind and ride-on mowers, perform maintenance on equipment as scheduled or requiredMow, trim and edge around trees, plant beds, sidewalks, parking lotsPlant, trim mow, edge, irrigation, fertilization, pest control and detail work associated with all landscape elements; grass, trees, shrubs, annuals and perennials, etc.Mix and apply chemicals used in groundskeeping utilizing proper mixing and application methods as well as wearing appropriate personal protective equipment for safetyProvide campus wide general maintenance and repairs by installing and removing landscape lighting, signs, gates, fences, and other landscape materialsPerform irrigation installation and maintenance and scheduling drip irrigation installationRemove unsightly trash and debris from public areas by regularly inspecting grounds. Uses rakes, brooms and other methods to sweep and collect trash and debris from streets, sidewalks and parking lotsAssist with the removal of snow and ice from walk ways and drive ways using snow shovels, snow blowers and tractors equipped with a blade. Apply sand, chat or salt on snow or ice-covered surfacesMaintain maintenance logs recording watering and chemical applications including the date, time, area, duration and type of chemical applied. Include wind speed and direction.Perform hour tracking and inventory management with designated system assigned by supervisorQualifications and Experience:Must be at least eighteen [18] years of agePrefer one year of experience in groundskeeping including knowledge of methods and materials used in planting, cultivating and trimming a variety of types of trees, shrubs, ground cover, flowers and grassesPrefer prior experience in the operation and maintenance of electrical or gasoline powered lawn and turf equipmentPrefer prior experience in the use and proper disposal of chemicals used in groundskeeping, horticulture and turf managementMust have valid KS driver’s license and meet Bluestem driving requirementsPhysical Requirements:Medium Work – Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly.
