Grounds Service Person – Daytona Beach Campus

The Opportunity Embry‑Riddle Aeronautical University is seeking a Grounds Service Person for the Daytona Beach campus. The Grounds Service Person performs maintenance and repairs on landscaped grounds, parking lots, roads, fencing, and drainage systems as assigned by the Foreman or Crew Leader.

Responsibilities

• Install new and renovate old landscaping including turf, trees, shrubs, and flowerbeds.
• Maintain, renovate, and repair all exterior athletic and recreational facilities.
• Remove all trash on grounds and empty waste receptacles.
• Provide emergency response to exterior hazardous conditions when appropriate.
• Assist in special events, set‑ups, and building service functions as needed.
• Maintain, renovate, and repair campus grounds including landscaping, fencing, parking lots, roadways, and pathways.
• Maintain parking lots and roadways, including potholes, curb stops, and cleaning.
• Operate power equipment with caution to ensure safety.
• Inspect equipment daily for proper operation.
• Maintain records of hours and materials used; log vehicle trip tickets.
• Keep equipment safe from vandalism or theft during working hours.
• Request equipment and supplies in advance to ensure job completion.
• Clean all equipment at the end of the shift.
• Work hours may vary.

Required Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED with at least one year of work experience.
• Ability to communicate verbally and in writing and to comprehend basic instructions.
• Ability to operate a standard shift vehicle and possess a valid Florida driver’s license.
• Ability to operate all power equipment related to grounds maintenance.
• Basic knowledge of ground maintenance, horticulture, cement work, etc.
• Ability to climb ladders or scaffolding and work in overhead areas.
• Ability to lift and/or carry miscellaneous equipment or supplies short distances and push or pull a handcart.
• Eye‑hand coordination essential for power tool operation.
• Compliance with safety precautions related to equipment and weather conditions.

Preferred Qualifications

• Prior ground and/or landscaping experience.
• Valid ClassC (CDL) license may be required in some instances; must meet the university’s approved driver standards.
• Clean driving record; excessive moving violations or convictions may disqualify.

Compensation

The annual salary range for this position is up to $16.65. The final offer will consider the candidate’s skills, qualifications, experience, and applicable regulations; it may fall outside the stated range.
