Job summary

Saint Meinrad Archabbey is seeking a dedicated Groundskeeper to maintain campus lawns, trees, and landscaped areas. You will irrigate, mow, edge, prune, and perform seasonal maintenance, including snow removal in winter.

The role requires physical stamina and the ability to lift, operate heavy equipment, and collaborate with a small facilities team. Ideal candidates have at least 2 years of groundskeeping experience, a valid driver's license, and strong communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Maintain campus lawns by mowing, edging, irrigation, fertilizing, and weed eating.
• Prune and maintain trees and shrubs; spray herbicides/insecticides as needed.
• Clear dirt and debris from walkways, roads, and landscaped areas after work.
• Assist in upkeep of roadways and parking areas; maintain drainage basins.
• Prepare areas for sod/seeding and assist with materials estimation.
• Assist with mail delivery, trash removal, and other maintenance tasks as needed.
• Remove snow and ice using plows, brooms, shovels, and de-icers.
• Collect recyclables weekly or on request.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities:

• Maintain campus lawns by irrigating, mowing, edging, hand trimming, fertilizing, weed eating, and any other methods to keep our campus visually and operatively pleasant. Clean off walkways, roads, and landscaped areas when finished mowing and trimming.
• Maintain various campus trees, shrubs by pruning, trimming, watering, and using appropriate spraying of herbicides, insecticides, fungicides, weeding, and cleaning of formal and informal landscaped areas.
• Remove and/or sweep (mechanical or hand) up dirt and debris from roadways, parking lots, sidewalks, steps, and all areas requiring service.
• Participate in ongoing upkeep of all roadways and parking areas.
• Maintain surface drainage basins and water ways.
• Assist in development and implementation of immediate and long-term plans related to grounds and equipment.
• Determine needed supplies and materials to complete work orders/projects and estimate cost of materials.
• Prepare areas for the laying of sod/seeding of various lawn and other agricultural seeds.
• Assist as needed with mail delivery, trash removal, and assisting other general maintenance co-workers in completing work orders and responding to the ever-changing needs of the Physical Facilities department.
• Remove snow and ice from roads, walkways using plows, power broom, shovels, and the spreading of the ice melting agents.
• Collect recyclables weekly or upon request.
