Job summary

Sylvania is seeking a Groundskeeper for the Northfield Campus on a 12-month assignment, working Tuesday through Saturday from 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM with occasional overtime. The role includes mowing, field maintenance, irrigation, snow removal, and other duties as directed by supervisors.

The position requires the ability to operate grounds equipment, physical stamina, and a valid Illinois driver's license. A $2,080 annual grounds stipend is included in starting compensation.

Qualifications

• Ability to safely operate job-related vehicles and equipment.
• Mechanical ability to maintain equipment.
• Ability to shovel, plow snow, and spread salt during winter hours.
• Valid Illinois driver’s license.
• Ability to regularly lift and handle items weighing at least 50 pounds.
• Ability to read instructions, manuals, signs and product labels.
• Physical effort including walking, standing, stooping, kneeling, raking, shoveling, and lifting.

Responsibilities

• Maintains grounds of high school property by mowing, trimming, litter removal, trash emptying, and edging sidewalks.
• Maintains sports fields by painting markings, edging, weed control, field dirt and mound maintenance, and game prep.
• Maintains water management through automatic irrigation or manual hoses.
• Snow removal responsibilities.
• Performs other duties as directed by supervisor.

Starting Rate:$21.24/hourplus $2,080 Annual Grounds Stipend

Qualifications:

1. Ability to safely operate job-related vehicles and equipment
2. Mechanical ability to maintain equipment
3. Ability to work early morning hours and weekends to shovel and plow snow, and spread salt
4. Valid Illinois driver's license
5. Ability to regularly lift and handle items weighing at least 50 pounds, occasionally more
6. Ability to effectively read written instructions, read manuals, signs and product labels
7. This work demands physical effort such as walking, standing, stooping, kneeling, raking, shoveling, and lifting

Responsibilities:

• Maintains grounds of high school property by:
  • cutting lawns, using riding or walk-behind power mowers;
  • aerating, fertilizing, slit seeding and topdressing turf using proper equipment;
  • picking up litter;
  • emptying trash; and
  • trimming bushes, pruning trees, and edging sidewalks, using a variety of hand and power tools
• Maintain sports fields by:
  • painting field markings;
  • keeping fields edged and free of weeds;
  • maintaining infield dirt, home plates and pitching mounds; and
  • preparing fields for games including some work on Saturday mornings
• Maintains water management through automatic irrigation system or manual hose and nozzle
