Job summary

Great River Resort & Casino is seeking a full-time Groundskeeper to maintain lawn care and landscaping across the property, including seasonal snow removal. The role encompasses planting, trimming, debris removal, and basic facility maintenance tasks such as painting and minor plumbing or electrical work.

You will operate typical grounds equipment and coordinate with other departments to ensure a safe guest environment.

Qualifications

• Basic knowledge of lawn care and landscaping.
• Ability to properly and safely operate lawn equipment (tractors, mowers, snowplow truck, spreaders).
• Knowledge of personal protective equipment and safety standards (OSHA/SDS).
• Ability to use a computer, email, and work-order system.

Responsibilities

• Maintain safety and cleanliness of the grounds for guests and staff.
• Perform grounds maintenance: mowing, weeding, planting, trimming, and debris removal.
• Assist with general building upkeep including painting, plumbing, HVAC, electrical, and carpentry tasks.
• Operate and maintain grounds equipment and vehicles; apply fertilizers or chemicals as directed.
• Shovel and plow snow; spread salt as needed; ensure sidewalks and parking areas are safe.

Pay:

$14.50-$16.50 (includes premium pay) and 40hrs paid time off upon hire

Position Summary:

This position is responsible for maintaining lawn care and landscaping of grounds inclusive of plowing, shoveling, sweeping, mowing, weeding, planting, trimming, raking and removal of garbage and debris. Responsible for preventive maintenance, repairing, replacing, and maintaining all facilities grounds equipment. Assist with basic repair of items such as plumbing, HVAC, electrical, carpentry, and mechanical systems.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Maintain a high level of safety awareness, follow all safety procedures, and ensure a clean and safe work environment for all guests and employees.


• Responsible for the daily cleaning and removing of trash from the grounds around the property.


• Weeding, planting, trimming, raking and removal of garbage and debris.


• Assist with the general maintenance of all facilities on property to include painting, plumbing, HVAC, electrical, carpentry, and mechanical systems.


• Maintain lawns by mulching, aerating, weeding, grubbing, removing thatch, and trimming and edging around flower beds, sidewalks, and walls.


• Responsible for maintaining lawn care and landscaping of grounds inclusive of plowing, shoveling, sweeping, mowing, weeding, planting, trimming, raking and removal of garbage and debris.


• Mix, spray, and/or spread fertilizers, herbicides, or insecticides onto grass, shrubs, and trees using a hand or automatic sprayer or spreader.


• Provide proper maintenance of sidewalks, driveways, parking lots, fountains, planters, and other grounds features.


• Shovel and plow snow from sidewalks, driveways, and parking lots. Spread salt in those areas using hand-held, automatic, and vehicle-equipped spreaders.


• Perform preventive maintenance, repair, and replacement work on grounds equipment.


• Assure an environment which emphasizes cooperation, communication, and teamwork with all departments.


• Support compliance with all internal procedures and regulatory requirements, including those associated with underage and intoxicated guests.


• Support current law and policy to provide a work environment free from illegal and discriminatory behavior.


• Complete job duties with minimal supervision, maintain acceptable attendance, and use appropriate judgment.


• Job duties, tasks, work hours, work requirements, and other duties as assigned may be added or changed at any time.

Required:

• Basic knowledge of lawn care and landscaping. Ability to properly and safely operate trash compactor, tractors, mowers, truck with snowplow, salter, skid loader, other utility vehicles, and general lawn care equipment.


• Basic knowledge and ability to operate various types of hand tools, power tools, ladders, safety equipment, man lift, forklift, and machinery that relate to the function of a maintenance shop. Proper use of chemicals used for cleaning and in maintenance.


• Answer all calls promptly and maintain politeness. Pay attention to the needs of employees and guest at all times.


• Knowledge of personal protective equipment, OSHA required standards, SDS, and safety requirements.


• Ability to use a computer, Microsoft Office, email, work-order database, and hand-held radios.


• Has the resiliency to deal with difficult guests in all types of business conditions and the ability to work effectively and courteously with fellow employees.


• Ability to maintain strict confidentiality including, but not limited to, player activity, claim activity, financial data, marketing plans and policies.


• Ability to perform assigned duties under frequent time pressures and in an interruptive environment.


• Ability to perform a broad variety of tasks and deadlines with an irregular work schedule.


• Ability to communicate effectively with guests and all levels of employees in both oral and written form.


• Ability to work in outdoor environment with exposure to inclement weather and extreme hot/cold temperatures.


• Ability to work in a casino and office environment with excessive noise levels, bright lights, and smoke environment.


• Knowledge of all facilities and promotional events available to guests on property.
