Job description

Position Overview

Full performance level in the groundskeeping occupation requiring considerable knowledge of grounds maintenance tools and techniques. Under direction, performs skilled and semi-skilled grounds maintenance functions, landscapes grounds, maintains outdoor sports facilities, and operates and maintains groundskeeping equipment.

Summary of Job Duties

May perform some or all of these duties or other job-related duties as assigned at one or more County locations. Work assignments will require travel to various County locations.

• Performs skilled and semi-skilled grounds maintenance functions (e.g., maintain site landscaping, lawns, trees, shrubs, flowers, turf, and irrigation; utilize insecticides, herbicides, and fertilizers; spread mulch; trim trees, hedges, and shrubs; conduct irrigation audits and perform basic programming and repairs).
• Maintains and repairs outdoor sports facilities (e.g., athletic fields, tennis courts, ball diamonds).
• Performs routine grounds maintenance and general labor (e.g., grass mowing, snow removal, weed control, lawn and flower bed maintenance, parking lot and street upkeep, restroom cleaning, trash removal, minor building construction).
• Operates and maintains groundskeeping equipment (e.g., mowers, backhoe, tractor, seeder) and maintains play equipment.
• Assists other staff and with special projects (e.g., landscaping, pothole repair, construction, painting).
• Performs basic computer skills (responding to emails, entering work requests, updating work orders).
• May provide work direction and perform related duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications and Requirements

Equivalent to High School diploma. Two (2) years of grounds maintenance experience preferred, or equivalent evidence of the minimum class requirements.

Supplemental Information

Must have a valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record. Must obtain a Public Operator Pesticide Applicator License Core, 8 Turf Pest Control within one year of hire. Benefits vary based on employment status and union affiliation, including health insurance, retirement, and paid leave.
