Qualifications

• 0–6 months experience in grounds keeping or related field.
• Ability to lift up to 100 pounds occasionally.

Responsibilities

• Mows lawns, trims edges around walks and beds; installs sod.
• Waters and prunes shrubs/trees to shape growth.
• Applies fertilizers, herbicides, and insecticides.
• Cleans grounds, removes litter, rakes leaves.
• Spreads salt to prevent ice buildup in cold weather.
• Plants flowers, trees and shrubs.
• Repairs/paints fences, walls and gates; graffiti removal.
• Removes debris from drainage ditches and culverts.
• Operates equipment like mowers, edgers, ladders, spreaders.
• Makes minor equipment repairs and sharpens tools.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Position Summary

Working Conditions

Outdoor work, walking, standing, sitting, hearing, bending, crouching. Employee may be subject to moderate noise, extreme temperatures and hazardous conditions. Exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally with or without accommodation, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

Job Function

• Mows lawns, trims and edges around walks, flower beds and walls and installs sod.
• Waters and prunes shrubs and trees to shape and improve growth or remove damaged leaves, branches or twigs
• Sprays lawn, shrubs and trees with fertilizer, herbicides and insecticides
• Cleans grounds, removes litter and rakes leaves.
• Spreads salt on public passage ways to prevent ice buildup during freezing weather
• Plants flowers, trees and shrubs.
• Repairs and paints fences, gates, walls, walks and outbuildings when covered with graffiti.
• Removes debris from drainage ditches and culverts.
• Uses machinery such as bobcats, backhoes, shovels, mowers, edgers, ladders, fertilizer spreaders and lawn rollers.
• Makes minor repairs on equipment and sharpens tools.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
