Job summary

MBUSD is seeking a dedicated Grounds Maintenance worker to perform gardening and grounds upkeep for district facilities. The role involves maintaining athletic fields, landscaping, irrigation systems, and general outdoor cleanliness to ensure a safe, attractive environment for students and staff.

Hours are 6:30 am to 3:00 pm. Requires a high school diploma, two years of experience, and a valid California driver's license.

Qualifications

  • Graduation from high school or equivalent.
  • Two years of grounds maintenance or landscaping experience.
  • Valid California Class C driver's license.

Responsibilities

  • Mow, edge, trim, and water lawns, fields and other turf grounds; edge walkways; hoe and pull weeds and rake leaves; maintain a safe environment for students, staff and the public.
  • Plant, cultivate, prune, spray, fertilize and irrigate flowers, trees, grass, hedges and shrubs; water various grounds areas by hand or by operating the irrigation system as required.
  • Perform general grounds cleanup, including picking up trimmings and plant debris from grounds areas, parking lots, playgrounds and other assigned areas.
  • Prepare athletic and play fields and surrounding landscape; measure and mark lines; drag, repair, prepare and maintain fields; maintain grass and turf areas.

Job Summary

Hours: 6:30 am- 3:00 pmPerform gardening and grounds maintenance duties in the beautification of District grounds and athletic fields; maintain grounds and other assigned areas to ensure a safe, clean and attractive environment for students, staff and the public; groom, contour and prepare athletic and play fields.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Mow, edge, trim, and water lawns, fields and other turf grounds; edge walkways; hoe and pull weeds and rake leaves; sweep litter from walks, driveways and other assigned areas; maintain a safe environment for students, staff and the public.
  • Plant, cultivate, prune, spray, fertilize and irrigate flowers, trees, grass, hedges and shrubs; water various grounds areas by hand or by operating the irrigation system as required.
  • Perform general grounds cleanup, including picking up trimmings and plant debris from grounds areas, parking lots, playgrounds, culverts, stairways, athletic fields and other assigned areas.
  • Perform a variety of grounds maintenance work in the preparation and maintenance of athletic and play fields and surrounding landscape; measure and mark with appropriate marking materials or equipment to delineate the area of play and restricting lines as prescribed and established by league and sport rules; drag, repair, prepare and maintain track and athletic fields; mow, maintain and repair grass, sod and scraped areas.
  • Perform work in the installation, repair and maintenance of designated irrigation systems and related parts, components and equipment as assigned by the position; clean, adjust and repair sprinkler heads, valves and lines as needed; repair mains as needed; set watering schedules and set time clocks according to seasons, soil conditions, and water distribution rates.

Requirements / Qualifications

Education and Experience: Any combination of training, education and experience which demonstrates possession of the knowledges and abilities stated above, and the ability to perform the duties of the position. Education: Graduation from high school or equivalent. Experience: Two years of grounds maintenance or landscaping experience. License(s), certifications or other requirements:

  • Valid California Class C driver’s license.
