Responsibilities

  • Flexible schedule including evenings, weekends, holidays, and events.
  • Maintain and renovate playgrounds, fields, and courts; paint buildings and equipment; repair fences; perform light plumbing.
  • Operate tools and equipment to complete tasks.
  • Coordinate with supervisor and others to review status and information.
  • Conduct landscaping tasks: mowing, planting, edging, debris removal, and mulching.
  • Operate City vehicles and perform pre/post-trip inspections.
  • Process work orders and other department documentation.
  • Perform general maintenance to keep machinery and tools in operable condition.
  • Maintain inventory and initiate materials orders; conduct safety inspections.
  • Ensure compliance with safety standards and procedures.
  • Perform custodial tasks in parks and facilities; clean facilities and offices.
  • Assist with setup, support, and breakdown of events and activities.

General Description

Pay/Salary: $20.80

This classification conducts various routine and semi-skilled maintenance tasks at City parks and recreational facilities.

Duties And Responsibilities

The functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this position. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the position as necessary.

  • Must be available to work a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, holidays, and special events, as operational needs require.
  • Conducts maintenance and construction tasks for various parks and facilities: resurfaces and renovates playgrounds, fields, and courts; paints buildings, equipment, and parking lots; repairs and assembles fences; conducts light plumbing.
  • Operates or uses various equipment, power tools, hand tools, and supplies in order to complete work assignments.
  • Communicates with supervisor, other employees, the public, and other individuals as needed to coordinate work activities, review the status of work, exchange information, or resolve problems.
  • Conducts a variety of landscaping duties: mows grass; plants flowers and shrubs; weed eats around signs and fence lines; edges curb lines; clears leaves tree limbs and other debris from park areas; spreads and hauls ground cover, dirt, and mulch.
  • Operates a City vehicle; conducts pre- and post-trip inspections including checking all fluids, gauges, lighting, mirrors, tires, body damage, seats and seatbelts, and cleanliness of assigned vehicle.
  • Processes a variety of documentation associated with department/division operations within designated timeframes and per established procedures: receives and reviews various documentation including work orders.
  • Conducts general maintenance tasks necessary to keep machinery, equipment, and tools in operable condition.
  • Maintains inventory of equipment, parts, and supplies: initiates orders of materials and equipment needed for each job; conducts routine safety inspections on equipment; advises supervisor of needed repairs.
  • Ensures compliance with all applicable codes, laws, rules, regulations, standards, policies, and procedures: ensures adherence to established safety procedures; monitors work environment and use of safety equipment.
  • Conducts general custodial duties at various parks and facilities: cleans parks, ball fields, restrooms, kitchens, and other areas; vacuums carpets; scrubs and waxes floors; dusts; washes windows and empties trash.
  • Assists with the setup, support, and breakdown of City events and recreational activities, including arranging tables, chairs, tents, barricades, equipment, signage, and other materials; performs event-related cleanup as needed.
Additional Functions
  • May provide lead guidance and direction to community service workers.
  • Performs other related duties as required.
Minimum Education And Experience Requirements

Requires a high school diploma or GED. (We verify education through the State board of education)

Must have

one (1) year of verifiable work experience in groundskeeping, maintenance, custodial, or related field.

It requires a valid state drivers license with an acceptable driving history.

Other Certifications May Be Required Upon Employment.

Physical Ability: Tasks require the regular and, at times, sustained performance of moderately physically demanding work, typically involving some combination of climbing and balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling, and that may involve the lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling of moderately heavy objects and materials (20-50 pounds).

Sensory Requirements: Some tasks require the ability to perceive and discriminate colors or shades of colors, sounds, odor, depth, texture, and visual cues or signals. Some tasks require the ability to communicate orally.

Environmental Factors: Performance f essential functions may require exposure to adverse environmental conditions, such as extreme heat and cold, dirt, dust, pollen, odors, wetness, humidity, rain, fumes, smoke, temperature and noise extremes, hazardous materials, unsafe structures, heights, confined spaces, machinery, vibrations, electric currents, traffic hazards, bright/dim lights, toxic agents, animal/wildlife attacks, animal/human bites, or rude/irate customers.
