Job summary

Mary Free Bed Rehabilitation Hospital is seeking a Grounds Maintenance Technician to sustain safe, clean exterior areas and parking structures within a hospital setting. You will perform routine upkeep between landscaping and snow-removal visits, monitor for hazards, and contribute to a secure, welcoming campus.

You will also document work, operate tools safely, assist with minor repairs, and support preventive maintenance and snow removal when needed.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Ability to read and interpret building drawings, equipment manuals and manufacturer specifications.
  • Ability to identify and requisition tools, equipment and materials needed for maintenance and repair work.
  • Basic computer skills, including email, internet research, and computerized maintenance management systems.
  • Ability to safely operate groundskeeping, snow-removal and general maintenance equipment.
  • Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.

Responsibilities

  • Maintains safe, clean and professional hospital grounds, exterior areas and parking structures.
  • Performs routine grounds upkeep between scheduled landscaping and snow-removal contractor visits.
  • Removes litter, leaves, branches and other exterior debris.
  • Completes minor trimming, weeding and landscaping touch-ups.
  • Addresses minor snow and ice conditions between contractor services.
  • Maintains three parking structures, including sweeping, trash removal, spill cleanup and clearing drains.
  • Keeps entrances, sidewalks, ramps, stairwells and pedestrian routes clean and accessible.
  • Inspects grounds and parking structures for hazards, damage and maintenance concerns.
  • Monitors contractor performance and reports service deficiencies.
  • Performs general maintenance duties inside the hospital as assigned.
  • Completes minor repairs involving doors, hardware, walls, ceilings, flooring, plumbing fixtures and other building components.
  • Assists maintenance staff with preventive maintenance, equipment inspections, room setups and special projects.
  • Responds to assigned service requests and corrective maintenance work orders.
  • Operates and maintains tools and equipment safely.
  • Documents completed work and promptly reports conditions requiring specialized repair or contractor support.

Summary

The Grounds Maintenance Technician is responsible for maintaining the grounds through equipment operation, physical and communication skills to maintain a safe, clean and professional healthcare environment. The person in this role is responsible for the daily inspections, routine upkeep and minor corrective and preventive maintenance of hospital grounds and parking structures. They will be responsible for monitoring contractor services and addresses conditions between scheduled landscaping and snow-removal visits, positively contributing to patient, visitor and staff safety.
