Job summary

Responsibilities

• Lift and move objects/equipment up to ~50 pounds; use hand/power tools.
• Work outdoors in all weather conditions; frequent bending/kneeling/shoveling.

Job Details: Job Location: Methodist University Location - Fayetteville, NC 28311, Position Type: Full Time Staff, This position reports to the Superintendent of Grounds.

Duties include, but are not limited to:

• Planting, weeding, mulching, watering, and caring for plants and shrubbery on university grounds.
• Mowing
• Maintaining lawns, trees, shrubs, flowers, turf, and irrigation.
• Trimming hedges, trees, and shrubs.
• Preventing and eliminating weeds.
• Maintaining university grounds by keeping them free from trash, litter, and debris. Tent setups.
• Lifting/moving objects and equipment weighing approximately 50 pounds as needed.
• Using hand and power tools as needed to accomplish assigned tasks.
• Frequent bending, kneeling, lifting, and shoveling.
• Must be able to work weekends as needed.

Qualifications: Experience and Training:

• Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying.
• Prefer applicants with strong grounds or horticultural experience.
• Prefer applicants with education equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade.
• Valid Driver's License required.

Knowledge of:

• Proper weeding, trimming, pruning, and fertilizing of plants and shrubbery.
• Hazards and safety precautions related to general maintenance and horticultural activities.

Ability to:

• Properly care for assigned areas and equipment.
• Understand and carry out oral and written directions.
• Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
• Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
• Work outdoors in all weather conditions.
• Bend, kneel, lift, and shovel.
