Job summary

Episcopal High School in Alexandria, VA is seeking a full-time Grounds Maintenance Technician to care for campus grounds and athletic fields. You will perform mowing, trimming, bed preparation, planting, irrigation work, and snow removal, reporting to the Grounds Maintenance Superintendent.

Ideal candidates have a high school diploma and basic groundskeeping experience, be physically able to lift 80 pounds, hold a valid driver's license, and be available weekends or on-call for emergencies.

Responsibilities

• Mow, edge, trim, bed preparation, planting, trees, shrubs, annuals, perennials, sod work, seeding, irrigation work, and snow removal.
• Assist with maintenance of campus turf, trees, shrubs, and bedding plants.
• Follow instructions from the Grounds Maintenance Superintendent and support outdoor athletic facilities maintenance.

Episcopal High School is seeking a full-time Grounds Maintenance Technician to assist with the maintenance of all Episcopal High School grounds and Athletic fields by performing routine groundskeeper functions and miscellaneous activities as assigned by the grounds maintenance superintendent.

Essential duties and responsibilities:

• Groundskeeper functions, including mowing, edging, trimming, bed preparation, planting, trees, shrubs, annuals, perennials, sod work, seeding, irrigation work, and snow removal.
• Assist with the maintenance of the majority of turf grass, trees, shrubs, and bedding plants on campus.
• Takes instruction from the grounds maintenance superintendent in the planting techniques, care, and maintenance of campus landscaping; assists in the care, maintenance, and preparation of all outdoor athletic facilities; and ensures that maintenance requests are handled promptly and efficiently.

Qualifications and Prerequisites:

• High School diploma/GED or equivalent
• Grounds maintenance experience is preferred but not required
• Ability to communicate effectively
• Ability to learn the proper use and operator maintenance of routine grounds maintenance equipment and hand tools
• Ability to lift 80 pounds
• Availability to work weekends, as needed
• On-call availability for snow/ice removal and other emergencies
• Must possess a valid state driver’s license

Work Environment:

• Work is done indoors and outdoors in all weather conditions.
• The work can be repetitive and physically demanding, requiring frequent bending, kneeling, lifting, and shoveling.
