Job summary

The University of Wisconsin Colleges invites applications for a Groundskeeper at the UW-La Crosse campus in La Crosse, WI. The role focuses on maintaining grounds, planting trees and shrubs, applying herbicides and pesticides, and supporting snow removal and athletic field upkeep. Normal hours are Monday to Friday, 7:00 a.m.

to 3:00 p.m., with overtime for snow removal and special events. Requirements include a valid driver’s license, the ability to obtain a Wisconsin Commercial Pesticide

Qualifications

• Must hold and maintain a valid driver’s license meeting state vehicle criteria.
• Must obtain State of Wisconsin Commercial Pesticide Applicator License Category 3.0 Turf and Landscape within 6 months of hire and maintain certification.
• Able to grasp, lift and carry tools/equipment up to 50 pounds regularly.
• Physically capable of working in varied positions and environments; extreme temperatures, heights, dust, noise.
• Able to wear protective equipment and operate heavy equipment safely.
• Willing to work overtime for snow removal or special events as needed.

Responsibilities

• Implements and monitors chemical and fertilizer programs.
• Constructs lawn and landscaping projects including soil grading, seeding, and sodding.
• Installs and maintains plants and landscape health using various tools and equipment.
• Identifies and remedies plant diseases and insect damage.
• Keeps lawns, walkways, roads, and parking lots clean and free of debris, snow, and ice.
