Job summary

Racine Unified School District is seeking a Groundskeeper to manage grounds and landscaping across district facilities, including turf maintenance, snow removal, and safety-compliant playground upkeep.

The role involves working with facilities staff to support district operations, applying best practices in landscape management, and contributing to a safe, sustainable campus environment.

Responsibilities

• Performs installation, maintenance and repair of grounds and landscapes across district facilities and sites.
• Manages turf operations including mowing, edging, aeration, fertilizing, irrigation, seeding, pesticide use, and sodding.
• Implements sustainable landscape practices in site design, planting, pruning and replacements.
• Installs, maintains and repairs playground equipment complying with safety and accessibility codes.
• Performs snow removal including plowing and salting.
• Maintains retaining walls, walkways and borders using masonry, wood and metal components.
• Inspects and repairs hand held fire extinguishers across facilities and vehicles.
• Assists schools, PTAs and volunteers with plant material and equipment recommendations.
• Performs concrete and bituminous surface repairs and fencing work.
• Diagnoses and treats turf, tree and plant diseases; operates tractors, skid steers, lifts, dumps and trailers.
• Keeps work areas clean and contributes to a respectful, diverse work environment.
