Job summary

Grounds Maintenance Worker position for the State of Nevada Office of the Military located in Carson City NV is responsible for performing a variety of landscaping and maintenance tasks such as planting, pruning, mowing, trimming, watering, fertilizing, weeding, and managing snow and ice removal.

They operate equipment including hand and power tools, mowers, trenching devices, forklifts, hoists, and lifts, and are expected to work independently with minimal training.

Qualifications

• Six months of experience performing basic grounds maintenance work; OR six months as a Grounds Maintenance Worker I in Nevada State service.
• Ability to read, write, and speak English to interpret safety labels and logs.
• Under general supervision, perform duties in gardening and landscaping with various tools and equipment.

Responsibilities

• Maintain grounds areas clean and free of trash, leaves, and snow using raking, sweeping, and shoveling.
• Operate light to heavy equipment including pickup trucks, dump trucks, and loaders.
• Prepare landscape sites, install sprinklers and plants per plans, and perform minor repairs on tools and vehicles.
• Operate, repair, and install sprinkler and drip irrigation systems.
• Identify plant diseases and pests and apply corrective measures.
• Perform specialized horticulture tasks such as propagation and climate control in a greenhouse.
