Job summary

Service Corporation International is seeking an operations leader to manage and oversee the maintenance and development for multiple cemeteries of large size and complexity in Kentucky. The role requires ensuring environmental, wildlife and safety regulations are met and collaborating with market and home office on capital expenditure projects.

Qualifications

  • 8+ years cemetery maintenance experience with increasing responsibilities.
  • At least 2 years supervising and managing staff.
  • Environmental regulatory compliance experience.
  • New construction / capital expenditure developmental experience.
  • Knowledge of environmental, wildlife and safety regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee operations of multiple cemeteries. Establish and communicate work, quality, and safety expectations ensuring cemetery services exceed customer expectations.
  • Coordinate staff work and time-off schedules ensuring appropriate coverage and minimizing overtime.
  • Manage grounds keeping, landscaping, and seasonal plantings presenting a welcoming and manicured appearance of properties.
  • Identify and implement efficiencies. Support change initiatives.
  • Source and select vendors. Procure, store and maintain inventory of tools, materials, equipment and lawn treatment. Review invoices for payment and maintain equipment in proper working order.
  • Manage mausoleum new construction; obtain drawings. Prepare budgets, vendor sourcing and selection. Manage construction build addressing and resolving issues. Collaborate on capital expenditure projects.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Oversee operations of multiple cemeteries. Establish and communicate work, quality, and safety expectations ensuring cemetery services exceed customer expectations. Coordinate staff work and time‑off schedules ensuring appropriate coverage and minimizing overtime.
  • Manage grounds keeping, landscaping, and seasonal plantings presenting a welcoming and manicured appearance of properties. Responsibilities may include funeral homes, crematories, or mausoleums. Ensure compliance with environmental, safety, and wildlife regulations. Build business relationships with local government authorities to facilitate swift resolution of issues and concerns.
  • Identify and implement efficiencies. Support change initiatives.
  • Source and select vendors. Procure, store and maintain sufficient inventory of tools, materials, equipment and lawn treatment. Review and approve invoices for payment. Maintain equipment in proper working order.
  • Manage mausoleum new construction; obtain drawings. Prepare budgets, vendor sourcing and selection. Manage new construction build addressing and resolving issues. Collaborate with the home office on capital expenditure projects, understanding timeline, resources, responsibilities and managing activity and noise in consideration of cemetery services.
  • Develop annual operating budget, personnel budget and management expenses to achieve budget. Plan for equipment replacement.
People Development
  • Develop strong, trusting, and reliable team. Understand team members career aspirations and provide assignments to develop skills and close gaps. Constructively address issues and provide timely appropriate feedback. Apply proactive and collaborative management style to increase employee engagement and lower turnover.
  • Responsible for screening candidates (internal and external) and hiring or promoting skilled staff. Recommend pay increases and career advancements.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Education

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.

Experience

  • At least eight (8) years of cemetery maintenance experience with increasing responsibilities.
  • At least two (2) years supervising and managing staff.
  • Environmental regulatory compliance experience.
  • New construction / capital expenditure developmental experience.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of environmental regulations applicable to the industry.
  • Knowledge of wildlife regulations applicable to the industry.
  • Knowledge of staff and public safety regulations applicable to the industry.
