Job summary

City of Port Orange is seeking a semi-skilled grounds maintenance worker to maintain city property grounds and assist with related tasks. Responsibilities include mowing, trimming, planting, repairing fences, painting, sidewalk work, and operating maintenance equipment.

Position includes irrigation work, street and facility upkeep, and basic carpentry or plumbing tasks as needed. Requires a GED/HS diploma, 2 years related experience, and a valid Florida Driver’s License.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED.
• Two years related experience and/or training in maintenance.
• Valid Florida Driver’s License.
• Some knowledge of tools, methods, materials and equipment used in performance of maintenance related work.
• Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions.
• Ability to read, analyze, and interpret work-related documents.
• Ability to follow and interpret instructions.
• Ability to use tools and equipment related to this position.
• Ability to perform tasks under limited supervision.

Responsibilities

• Perform landscaping tasks such as mowing lawns, trimming and edging walks, flower beds, and walls.
• Clean grounds and remove litter.
• Plant and water grass, flowers, trees, and shrubs.
• Repair fences, gates, walls, and walks.
• Paint fences and outbuildings.
• Pour new sidewalks and streets.
• Operate mowing equipment, trucks, tractors, and other equipment.
• Perform irrigation maintenance and repairs.
• Repair and maintain streets or facilities such as sports fields or playgrounds.
• Perform other semi-skilled and unskilled labor as needed.
• Provide routine maintenance and repair to small equipment.
• Attend work promptly and regularly.
• Perform related duties as required; may be assigned during emergencies.
