Monster Tree Service of South Charlotte is seeking a motivated Ground Technician I to drive trucks, operate the chipper, and support climbers on the ground. You’ll handle brush, run sawn goods, and perform routine maintenance while following safety protocols and the job briefing.

Ideal candidates have a valid license, some related crew experience, and the physical ability to meet demanding outdoor work in all weather. CDL/CTSP/ISA credentials are a plus, with strong teamwork emphasized.

Monster Tree Service of South Charlotte is a professional tree care company in Indian Trail, NC, serving South Charlotte, South Mecklenburg and Union County with modern equipment, clear standards and a safety-first crew culture.

You know your way around a job site and want a real trade. As a Ground Technician I you run the chipper, run a saw on the ground, drive and back our trucks and trailers, and keep production moving for the climber.

What You'll Do

Technical Mastery

• Brush handling: Handles, drags, rakes and blows brush safely.
• Chipper feeding: Feeds the chipper correctly and performs the emergency stop.
• Drop zone awareness: Identifies drop zones and stages tools in the right place.
• Climber support: Sends ropes and tools up to the climber.
• Chipper operation: Operates the chipper safely and completes daily chipper maintenance.
• Ground saw work: Runs a chainsaw on the ground and performs basic saw maintenance.
• Truck and trailer driving: Safely drives, parks and backs trucks, chippers and trailers.
• Tool stowage: Cleans and stows tools correctly.
• Core knots: Ties and applies the core knots.
• Rope handling: Handles rope for small rigging lowers.

Efficiency & Safety

Wears the full PPE set and works to the job briefing and traffic control, keeps brush flow and cleanup at production pace, stages ropes and hardware ahead of rigging, completes the daily vehicle and trailer inspection and helps spot hazards during setup.

Professionalism

Arrives on time and ready, respects the crew's direction and anticipates its needs, takes ownership of tools and equipment, completes tasks without repeated reminders, models respect and clear communication, and shows new crew members PPE use and brush handling.

What You Need (Required)

• Valid driver's license and a clean driving record
• Some experience on a tree, landscaping or construction crew, or 6 months on our ground crew
• Able to meet the physical requirements below

Nice to Have (Preferred)

• Chainsaw and chipper experience
• Experience towing a trailer
• CDL or CTSP

Physical Requirements and Work Environment

• Lift and carry up to 50 lbs repeatedly throughout the day - brush, logs, rope and equipment

Work outdoors year-round in heat, cold, wind and rain, on uneven, sloped or wooded ground

• Get into and out of trucks and equipment many times a day
• Work around loud, running equipment - chippers, saws, grinders - with hearing and eye protection
• Work in areas that can have poison ivy, stinging insects, snakes and other wildlife
• Wear required PPE all day: helmet, eye and hearing protection, gloves and chainsaw protection

Pay and Benefits

• Pay: $20.00 per hour
• Credential pay: +$1.00/hr for each of CDL, CTSP, ISA Certified Arborist and TRAQ, and they stack
• Paid weekly, with overtime at time-and-a-half over 40 hours
• 40 hours of paid time off a year and 9 paid holidays, after 90 days
• $500 a year education allowance for full-time employees, plus training materials when you pursue a TCIA, ISA or NC certification exam
• Paid Monster School training, and company-issued PPE and uniforms

Your Career Path Here

• Ground Technician II - after 12 months at this level and a Career Pathway review. Pays $23.00/hr.
