Job summary

Asplundh Tree Expert, LLC in Ohio is seeking a groundperson to feed brush into a woodchipper, scan for hazards, and help keep others safe on site, while learning company policies.

You will maintain equipment, receive on-the-job training and advancement opportunities, and may be deployed for local or out-of-state storm restoration with overtime as needed.

Candidates should be 18+, have reliable transportation, and be prepared for outdoor work in all weather; a high school diploma is preferred.

Qualifications

  • Must be 18 years-of-age or older.
  • Reliable means of transportation to and from lot location to maintain attendance, at times this could be a mandatory 60-hour work weeks.
  • Available for local and out of state storm restoration work, overtime hours vary including holidays and weekends.
  • Potential for 16-hour shifts 7 days in the case of an emergency.

Responsibilities

  • Operate chainsaw to cut brush, logs and stumps of larger trees.
  • Assist in transporting necessary gear to and from trucks to complete work at hand.
  • Drag, gather, and feed brush into woodchipper.
  • Co-driver awareness skills traveling to and from job locations and assisting with back-up.
  • Work Positioning Spotter and Flagging after proper qualification.
  • Learn Team Communication Skills and maintain vehicles/equipment in order.
  • Work outdoors in all temperatures and around hazards.
  • Wear appropriate hearing protection near noisy equipment.

Essential Functions & Responsibilities:
  • Operate chainsaw to cut brush, logs and stumps of larger trees.
  • Assist in transporting necessary gear to and from trucks to complete work at hand.
  • Drag, gather, and feed brush into woodchipper.
  • Codriver awareness skills traveling to and from job locations. The understanding of the basic knowledge and skills required to back a vehicle and trailer, along with assisting in that process after having the proper qualification.
  • Work Positioning Spotter, after having proper qualification.
  • Flagging, after having proper qualification.
  • Learn Team Communication Skills.
  • Services vehicles and equipment, maintaining them in neat, clean, and specified mechanical order.
  • Works in all temperatures and will be exposed to nature. (i.e., irritating plants and biting or stinging insects).
  • Works near energized parts or equipment.
  • Works in traffic.
  • Works around excessive noise from machines, gas saws, and other equipment with proper hearing protection.
  • Exposed to hazards of working near power equipment, traffic, high voltage wires, and falling limbs.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Must be 18 years-of-age or older.
  • Reliable means of transportation to and from lot location to maintain attendance, at times this could be a mandatory 60-hour work weeks.
  • Available for local and out of state storm restoration work, overtime hours vary including holidays and weekends. Potentialfor 16-hour shifts 7 days in the case of an emergency.(This is due to being identified as a form of a utility first responder).

Due to the inherently dangerous nature of the industry and requirements to work with or around hazardous equipment, employees must have:

  • Sufficient eyesight to judge distance/coordination of equipment and tools to hazards.
  • Able to maintain attention and concentration for extended periods of time.
  • Able to withstand exposure to all kinds of weather while completing work assignments.
  • Able to wear personal protective equipment as necessary.
  • Able to enter and exit a vehicle numerous times a day.
  • Have the endurance necessary to traverse various terrain.
  • Capable of performing job duties throughout a standard 8- or 10-hour day.
  • Able to communicate with others, read, write, and comprehend written/verbal job instructions and information, and communicate and handle conflict professionally. Education & Experience:
  • High School Diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Entry-level position, no experience required.
    • Previous experience is a plus!
  • Specialized Equipment experience preferred but not required.
Pre-Screen:
  • Upon offer, employees may be required to subject and pass a pre-employment drug screen, background and/or MVR check.
License & Certifications:
  • Driver's License Preferred.
  • CDL is Preferred but not required.
  • CPR Certification Preferred but not required.
  • 1st Aid Certification Preferred but not required.
Physical Requirements:

  • OCCASSIONAL(up to 33%): stooping, kneeling squatting, body twisting, sense of touch, climbing on/off truck, gripping, lifting over 10 lbs. to 50 lbs., reaching, lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, climbing ladders, balancing, lifting over 50 lbs.
  • FREQUENT(up to 66%): standing, walking, manual dexterity, seeing distant, seeing, reading, range of motion, hearing-speech range, depth perception, climbing stairs, lifting up to 10 lbs.
  • CONTINUOUS(up to 100%): Sense of Touch, Gripping, Seeing, Carrying, Pulling
