Job summary

Akima Global Logistics (AGL) is seeking a Ground Support Equipment (GSE) Mechanic for the U.S. Army Equipment Turn-In Site.

You will inspect, troubleshoot, repair, and maintain GSE and MHE, ensuring equipment is serviceable, safe, and compliant with Army manuals, and prepared for storage, turn-in, or transfer. The role requires working at an on-site location, performing preventive maintenance, documenting results, and coordinating with Supply Technicians.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred; vocational/technical certification in mechanical or electrical maintenance a plus.
• 3–5 years of hands-on experience in GSE or MHE maintenance (Army or contractor environment preferred).
• Familiarity with Army maintenance standards, TMs, and property accountability requirements.
• PMCS for GSE/MHE and knowledge of Army logistics systems such as GCSS-Army.

Position: Ground Support Equipment (GSE) Mechanic – U.S. Army Equipment Turn-In Site (Contractor)

The Ground Support Equipment Mechanic is responsible for the inspection, troubleshooting, repair, and maintenance of Army ground support equipment (GSE) and material handling equipment (MHE) at a contractor-managed equipment turn-in site. This role ensures that GSE assets (e.g., generators, air compressors, hydraulic jacks, power units, forklifts, and specialized support tools) are serviceable, compliant with U.S. Army technical manuals (TMs), and properly prepared for storage, turn-in, or transfer. The GSE Mechanic supports Army readiness and accountability by ensuring equipment is safe, functional, and documented in accordance with Army standards.

Responsibilities

Equipment Inspection & Maintenance

• Perform inspections and diagnostics on ground support equipment and MHE during turn-in processing.
• Conduct preventive and corrective maintenance per Army maintenance standards (DA PAM 750-8, AR 750-1, and applicable TMs).
• Service and repair mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems.
• Verify equipment condition codes and annotate deficiencies for property accountability.

Repair & Servicing

• Repair and maintain items such as generators, heaters, lighting units, power distribution equipment, hydraulic test stands, tow bars, jacks, and lifting devices.
• Troubleshoot faults using Army-approved diagnostic tools.
• Replace worn or damaged components and return equipment to a serviceable state when authorized.
• Tag, segregate, and document unserviceable equipment for proper disposition.

Documentation & Systems

• Record maintenance and inspection results using DA Form 2404/5988-E and Army systems such as GCSS-Army.
• Update condition codes (A–H) and maintenance records in compliance with ISO 9001:2015 Quality Management System.
• Ensure audit-ready documentation to support Army inspections, reviews, and accountability checks.

Safety & Compliance

• Adhere to OSHA, Army, and company safety policies during maintenance operations.
• Safely handle fuels, lubricants, batteries, and hazardous materials in accordance with environmental regulations.
• Enforce safety procedures for lifting, towing, and transporting GSE and MHE.

Support to Turn-In Operations

• Coordinate with Supply Technicians and Material Coordinators to verify serviceability and documentation during equipment turn-in.
• Provide technical advice to Army and contractor staff on GSE condition and maintenance requirements.
• Assist in preparing GSE and MHE for shipment, storage, or redistribution.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred; vocational/technical certification in mechanical or electrical maintenance a plus!

• Familiarity with Army maintenance standards, TMs, and property accountability requirements.

• Selected candidate must be able to bring their own tools (required)

Skills

• Proficiency in reading TMs, schematics, and maintenance work orders.
• Strong attention to detail and recordkeeping skills.
• Effective teamwork and communication in a fast-paced environment.
• Ability to operate forklifts, cranes, or other MHE with proper licensing (OF 346 or equivalent).
• Excellent communication skills for interfacing with Army officials and contractor leadership.
• Basic proficiency in the English language (reading and writing).
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook).
• Must be able to travel within the United States asrequired. This position requires travel up to 25% of the time.
• Must receive a favorable background check and drug testing results.
• Employees may be required to perform other duties as assigned.
• Must have a REAL ID.
• Must have a valid driver’s license with proof of vehicle insurance.
• Must be able to obtain and maintain a Common Access Card (CAC).
• Must be able to obtain Tier1/ NACI (Public trust) background eligibility.

Physical Demands & Working Environment

• Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. and perform routine standing, walking, bending, and reaching tasks in warehouse and field environments.
• Must also meet all physical requirements necessary to perform assigned duties, including working in extreme heat or cold, high, or low humidity, blowing sand and dust, confined spaces, heights, and other inclement weather conditions.
• This position involves working both indoors and outdoors, periodic overtime, and exposure to heat, dust, cold, and adverse weather conditions.

Salary

• Hourly Wage: $29.03 USD.
• Health & Welfare for each hour worked: $5.09 USD.
