Responsibilities

• Reviews clinical information provided to determine pertinent pathologic examination.
• Examine the gross specimen with knowledge of pathologic conditions.
• Dictate the finding clearly and completely.
• Select tissue samples for slide preparation with photographs/diagrams when requested.
• Escalate non-routine specimens to senior staff as needed.
• Maintain general appearance of the laboratory.
• Champion safety, compliance, and quality control.

In this role, you will:

• Assure appropriate specimen accessioning and labeling.
• Perform gross description and dissection of specimens received.
• Maintain the integrity of the specimen and patient identification.
• Describe gross anatomic features of routine, uncomplicated surgical specimens, ensuring that all lesions, marking and sutures are mentioned.
• Reviews clinical information provided to determine what pathologic examination is pertinent.
• Examine the gross specimen with knowledge of pathologic conditions that may be present and the questions that must be answered.
• Dictate the finding in a clear, complete, sufficient manner.
• Selects pertinent tissue samples for slide preparation, providing photographs and/or diagrams of specimen and dissection of specimen, prior to and/or after dissection, when requested and/or indicated.
• Escalates non-routine, complicated surgical specimens to a Grossing Tech II or Pathologist Assistant, as needed.
• Maintain general appearance of the laboratory.
• Work in a fast-paced laboratory environment with biological and chemical hazardsChampion safety, compliance, and quality control

All you need is:

Minimum training/education required is an Associate degree in chemical, physical or biological science or medical laboratory technology1 year of experience in grossing, preferred.
