Position
Grooming Salon Leader
Responsibilities
- Lead salon operations and salon team members while delivering expert grooming services to pets and ensuring a positive experience for customers and their pets.
- Oversee day-to-day grooming salon operations, optimize scheduling and capacity, manage inventory, and execute staffing plans.
- Recruit, hire, train, and supervise grooming staff, provide coaching and performance evaluations, and foster a positive, collaborative work environment.
- Develop efficient grooming schedules that maximize productivity and accommodate customer demand; ensure coverage during peak hours.
- Monitor performance metrics (revenue, customer satisfaction, partner productivity) and develop action plans for improvement.
- Collaborate with store management to achieve sales targets and salon objectives; drive growth and profitability.
- Provide exceptional customer service, address grooming inquiries, offer recommendations, and resolve concerns promptly.
- Stay informed on grooming trends and best practices to enhance skills for yourself and your team.
- Perform professional grooming services independently, including bathing, drying, brushing, haircuts and styling, nail trimming, ear cleaning, and gland cleaning, following pet owners’ instructions and breed standards.
- Operate and maintain grooming instruments (clippers, blades, shears, brushes, dryers).
- Assess each pet’s needs, considering coat, type, skin conditions, and temperament.
- Educate pet parents on grooming maintenance and home care, providing personalized recommendations.
- Ensure the safety and well‑being of every animal in the salon; monitor for signs of discomfort, illness, or injury and report concerns promptly.
- Maintain a clean and safe grooming area; disinfect tools and equipment; perform daily and weekly cleaning per Petco policies; other duties as assigned.
- Apply Petco grooming policies, standards, and guidelines to ensure safety, quality, and consistency; hold team members accountable for safety and quality.
Education/Experience
- Two or more years’ experience as a professional groomer or completion of a technical grooming program.
- Strong leadership skills with experience in supervising or managing salon staff (preferred).
- High school diploma or GED preferred, though not required.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills for interactions with pet parents and team members.
- Expert knowledge of dog breeds, grooming requirements, common health issues, and behaviors.
- Expert-level proficiency in breed-specific cuts, styling techniques, and grooming standards.
- Genuine passion for animals and for continuing a career in pet grooming.
- Strong decision-making and problem-solving skills with ability to work with guidance when needed.
- Results-driven with focus on salon productivity and growth.
- Attention to detail to ensure high-quality grooming services.
- Ability to handle pets of all sizes and temperaments with care and empathy.
- Full-time availability at a minimum of 35 hours per week, including weekends, evenings, and holidays as needed.
Benefits and Compensation

Work Environment
The majority of duties are indoors in the grooming salon. Physical requirements include bending, kneeling, lifting up to 30 pounds, and standing for long periods. Work may involve exposure to heights via a ladder and wet, noisy conditions typical of a grooming salon.
