Position: Professional Groomer at Shelter Island Veterinary Hospital

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES (may include but are not limited to):

• Grooming and styling pets according to owners’ instructions or standard styles.
• Trimming nails, brushing teeth, and cleaning ears.
• Accommodating special requests from pet owners.
• Ensuring pet safety during grooming.
• Cleaning work areas routinely.
• Recommending suitable products to pet owners.
• Answering client questions with a friendly attitude.
• Informing the receptionist when pets are ready for pickup.
• Supporting the Mission, Vision, and Values of Destination Pet.

REQUIREMENTS:

• Professional grooming experience is required.
• Maintain a professional manner at all times.
• Ability to work under pressure while following proper procedures.
• Good time management, patience, and a positive attitude.
• Ability to operate a phone, computer, and learn facility software.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.
• Familiarity with animal behavior, body postures, and hair textures.
• Must be a pet enthusiast — pets are part of our family!

Physical Requirements:

• Ability to sit, stand, walk, and lift over 50 lbs, especially during bathing.
• Work environment includes exposure to disinfectants, animal hair/fecal matter, temperature variations, and getting wet.
