Job summary

Meijer Inc. is seeking a capable team leader to drive staffing, selection, and development within the store. You will promote career paths, coach the team, and handle disciplinary decisions when needed, all while maintaining strong sales performance and loss prevention standards.

You’ll spend most of your time in-store, mentoring staff, delivering high-quality customer service, and ensuring safety and compliance across shifts. A year of management experience helps you lead with confidence.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent is required.
• 2–3 years of related retail experience.
• One year of management experience.
• Rotational assignments in store areas (meat, bakery, produce, deli) help with cross-training.
• Strong communication to provide clear direction.
• Ability to resolve conflicts and address root causes.
• Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
• Ability to analyze financial and statistical information to inform decisions.
• Ability to teach suggestive selling and lead safety practices.
• Experience mentoring team members across hourly roles and leadership positions.

Responsibilities

• Provide courteous, friendly, and efficient service to customers and team members.
• Staffing, selection, and hiring to meet staffing needs.
• Promote succession planning and identify development needs for team members; participate in promotions.
• Document and apply disciplinary actions and make recommendations concerning discharge.
• Manage P&L, achieve sales, and maintain shrink within the department.
• Model exceptional, fast, and friendly customer service.
• Communicate the Meijer Friendly Initiative in team meetings and conversations.
• Mentor and coach team members to exceed customer service and sales goals.
• Ensure team training is completed and consistent across shifts.
• Spend majority of time in-store, engaging with customers and team members.
• Maintain a safe work environment and ensure reliable attendance.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

What You’ll be Doing

• Ensure a positive company image by providing courteous, friendly, and efficient service to customers and team members.

What You Bring with You (Qualifications)

• High school diploma or its equivalent required.
• 2-3 years of related retail experience.
• One year of management experience.
• Rotational assignments in other areas of the store such as meat, bakery, produce and deli; also customer service and product flow experience is helpful.
• Demonstrated ability to communicate to team members in the organization in a way that provides clear and precise direction.
• Demonstrated ability to resolve conflict and by addressing root cause issues.
• Demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks.
• Demonstrated ability to analyze financial and statistical information and use that information to make informed decisions.
• Demonstrated ability to teach suggestive selling.
• Demonstrated ability to lead an organization that practices working safely at all times.
• Demonstrated ability to mentor team members in all areas of the organization including SDITs, team members in hourly positions and team leaders.
• Successful completion of all required certifications.
