Job Summary

As a Grocery Manager, you will ensure efficient operations of the Grocery Department to meet business goals and customer needs.

Key Responsibilities & Essential Functions
  • Management: Spend majority of time using independent judgment to make employment‑related and business decisions, including product‑ and department‑related strategies, hiring, promoting, disciplining, suspending, discharging, rewarding, or otherwise engaging in resolving partner‑related matters. Manage department workflow and schedules to attain 100% completion of standard operating procedures (SOPs). Use department best practices and H‑E‑B SOPs to achieve department budget and metrics. Assist customers in finding products and handling special requests. Maintain contact with partners at all levels in the organization involved in processes that touch the department (e.g., Warehouse, Distribution, SRS Team). Ensure in‑stock conditions, warehouse, and inventory control. Execute daily process responsibilities to ensure optimum utilization of the perpetual inventory system (SRS). Complete and distribute required reports and paperwork so that accounting statements accurately reflect department performance. Use Grocery SOPs and department procedures to minimize shrink. Maintain positive vendor relationships. Train SORM/SORL trainees.
  • Sales / Analytics: Manage new‑item implementation effectively to maximize sales and gross profit opportunities. Handle a large product assortment and increased sales volume. Apply and model an increased level of knowledge of specialty products. Plan, analyze, build, and maintain required displays based on PDP and order via Displays on Line (DOL). Research and analyze potential or existing process breakdowns; work with necessary partners to identify and solve problems.
  • Food Safety / Sanitation: Ensure compliance with government and H‑E‑B regulations and standards for product freshness, safety, refrigeration, and sanitation.
Qualifications & Key Requirements

Work Experience: Of experience in retail management.

Training: Completion of required department training – forklift / power jack training.

  • Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel) and H‑E‑B systems.
  • Advanced interpersonal and verbal/written communication skills.

Education

School of Retail Management (SORM).

Licenses / Certifications
  • SRS Certification.
  • Food Safety certification.
Physical Demands & Working Conditions
  • Function in a fast‑paced retail environment.
  • Lift and carry up to 75 lbs on a regular basis within 500 feet distance.
  • Stand, walk, bend, reach, kneel, squat, and reach overhead and side‑to‑side throughout shift.
  • Perform movements that require hand/finger dexterity.
  • Safely maneuver around moving mechanical parts and high, precarious places.
  • Work in a cooler environment on a regular basis, and in an extreme cold environment on an occasional basis.
  • Work a flexible schedule, including opening, closing, and weekend shifts.
  • Be exposed to moderate noise levels (rarely to extreme noise).
