Job summary

Kroger's Fred Meyer division is seeking a Grocery Department Manager to lead daily operations in the Northwest. You will direct and supervise department activities, ensure a safe, clean environment, and deliver outstanding customer service to support repeat business.

Responsibilities span inventory control, pricing, staffing, budgeting, and promoting teamwork with store leadership. You’ll uphold Kroger's values, train associates, and ensure compliance with all applicable laws and guidelines.

  • Report safety risks, theft or fraud; notify management of accidents.
  • Train associates on inventory and CAO.

  • Maintain inventory accuracy and note discrepancies.
  • Assist management with budget, profit and loss reviews.
  • Monitor and control department expenses.
  • Stay current with ads; implement promotional plans.
  • Prepare seasonal critiques and submit them to the supervisor.
  • Create and execute sales promotions with store management.
  • Know the store layout and respond to product questions.
  • Follow all laws and company guidelines; train and develop associates.
  • Develop scheduling to manage customer volume and promote teamwork.
  • Communicate department information to associates; supervise and coach direct reports.
  • Handle high-paced/ stressful environments and manage conflicts constructively.
  • Act with honesty and integrity regarding customer and business information.
  • Follow directions and escalate issues when needed.

Responsibilities
  • Adhere to all food safety regulations and guidelines; ensure proper temperatures in cases and coolers are maintained and temperature logs are maintained
  • Report all safety risks or issues, and illegal activity, including: robbery, theft or fraud; notify management of customer or employee accidents
  • Train department associates on inventory/stocking and Computer Assisted Ordering (CAO)
  • Plan, organize and supervise the inventory process
  • Schedule daily, weekly and monthly price changes by updating shelf tags and promotional signs
  • Maintain an awareness of inventory/stocking conditions; note any discrepancies in inventory
  • Assist store management in preparing the store/department budget, profit and loss reviews, and take appropriate action on all financial reports
  • Monitor and control expenses for the department
  • Stay current with present, future, seasonal and special ads
  • Implement the period promotional plan for the department
  • Prepare and submit seasonal critiques for the sales and merchandising supervisor
  • Create and execute sales promotions in partnership with store management
  • Understand the store’s layout and be able to locate products
  • Gain and maintain knowledge of products sold within the department and be able to respond to questions and make suggestions about products
  • Adhere to all local, state and federal laws, and company guidelines
  • Train and develop associates on performance of their job and participate in the performance appraisal process
  • Develop adequate scheduling to manage customer volume throughout hours of operation
  • Collaborate with associates and promote teamwork to help achieve company/store goals
  • Communicate company, department, and job specific information to associates
  • Supervise and coach direct reports in the performance of their duties; complete performance reviews and provide feedback to direct reports
  • Ability to work cooperatively in high paced and sometimes stressful environment
  • Ability to manage conflict in a reasonable, nonconfrontational and cooperative manner
  • Ability to act with honesty and integrity regarding customer and business information
  • Ability to follow directions and seek assistance when necessary to resolve customer and business issues
  • Provide support and assistance through direct interaction with minors, individuals with special needs, and/or older adults
  • Must be able to perform the essential job functions of this position with or without reasonable accommodation
