Job summary

Fred Meyer is seeking a Grocery Department Manager in Washington to lead daily store operations, supervise the department team, and ensure a safe, clean, and customer-focused shopping experience. You will guide staff, manage inventory and CAO, and collaborate with store leadership to meet goals.

Ideal candidates have grocery management experience, strong communication skills, and a commitment to food safety and excellent service. This is a full-time, on-site role.

Qualifications

  • Minimum High School diploma or GED, plus management experience.
  • Proven ability to lead a grocery department and drive results.
  • Experience following food safety rules and inventory controls.

Responsibilities

  • Direct and supervise all functions for the department.
  • Support day-to-day Grocery operations and customer service.
  • Train associates on inventory, stocking, and CAO processes.
  • Plan, organize and supervise the inventory process.
  • Schedule price changes and update shelf tags and promos.
  • Monitor expenses and assist in budgeting and financial reviews.
  • Ensure food safety and regulatory compliance.

MINIMUM
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Any management experience
DESIRED
  • 1 year of grocery retail experience
  • Adhere to all food safety regulations and guidelines; ensure proper temperatures in cases and coolers are maintained and temperature logs are maintained
  • Report all safety risks or issues, and illegal activity, including: robbery, theft or fraud; notify management of customer or employee accidents
  • Train department associates on inventory/stocking and Computer Assisted Ordering (CAO)
  • Plan, organize and supervise the inventory process
  • Schedule daily, weekly and monthly price changes by updating shelf tags and promotional signs
  • Maintain an awareness of inventory/stocking conditions; note any discrepancies in inventory
  • Assist store management in preparing the store/department budget, profit and loss reviews, and take appropriate action on all financial reports
  • Monitor and control expenses for the department
  • Stay current with present, future, seasonal and special ads
  • Implement the period promotional plan for the department
  • Prepare and submit seasonal critiques for the sales and merchandising supervisor
  • Create and execute sales promotions in partnership with store management
  • Understand the store's layout and be able to locate products
  • Gain and maintain knowledge of products sold within the department and be able to respond to questions and make suggestions about products
  • Adhere to all local, state and federal laws, and company guidelines
  • Train and develop associates on performance of their job and participate in the performance appraisal process
  • Develop adequate scheduling to manage customer volume throughout hours of operation
  • Collaborate with associates and promote teamwork to help achieve company/store goals
  • Communicate company, department, and job specific information to associates
  • Supervise and coach direct reports in the performance of their duties; complete performance reviews and provide feedback to direct reports
  • Ability to work cooperatively in high paced and sometimes stressful environment
  • Ability to manage conflict in a reasonable, nonconfrontational and cooperative manner
  • Ability to act with honesty and integrity regarding customer and business information
  • Ability to follow directions and seek assistance when necessary to resolve customer and business issues
  • Provide support and assistance through direct interaction with minors, individuals with special needs, and/or older adults
  • Must be able to perform the essential job functions of this position with or without reasonable accommodation
