Job summary

Dillons is seeking a customer service-oriented associate to create an outstanding shopping experience in a safe, clean environment. You will assist the department manager in achieving sales goals and uphold the Customer 1st strategy while delivering excellent service across the store.

Roles include responding to customer questions, maintaining product knowledge, stocking and labeling merchandise, and ensuring food safety with temperature controls.

Qualifications

  • Ability to handle stressful situations.
  • Effective communication skills.
  • Knowledge of basic math (counting, addition, and subtraction).
  • Retail experience (desired).

Responsibilities

  • Promote trust and respect among associates.
  • Create an environment that makes customers feel welcome and appreciated by answering questions about products.
  • Know products within the department and respond to questions with suggestions.
  • Offer product samples to help customers discover new items.
  • Inform customers of dairy specials and ensure fresh products are available.
  • Recommend items to meet customers' needs and wants.
  • Check product quality and review sell-by dates.
  • Label, stock and inventory department merchandise.
  • Report ordering/shipping discrepancies to the department manager.
  • Maintain a positive attitude and stay current with ads.
  • Adhere to food safety regulations and ensure proper temperatures in cases and coolers.
  • Reinforce safety programs and report unsafe conditions.
  • Perform preventive maintenance and notify management of repairs.
  • Notify management of accidents and report safety risks or illegal activity.
  • Work cooperatively in a high-paced environment and manage conflict calmly.
  • Follow directions and seek assistance to resolve issues.
  • Provide support to customers including minors, individuals with special needs, and older adults.
  • Perform essential functions with or without reasonable accommodation.

  • Gain and maintain knowledge of products sold within the department and be able to respond to questions and make suggestions about products.
  • Offer product samples to help customers discover new items or products they inquire about.
  • Inform customers of dairy specials.
  • Provide customers with fresh products that they have ordered.
  • Recommend items to customers to ensure they get the products they want and need.
  • Check product quality to ensure freshness. Review "sell by" dates and take appropriate action.
  • Label, stock and inventory department merchandise.
  • Report product ordering/shipping discrepancies to the department manager.
  • Display a positive attitude.
  • Stay current with present, future, seasonal and special ads.
  • Adhere to all food safety regulations and guidelines.
  • Ensure proper temperatures in cases and coolers are maintained and temperature logs are maintained.
  • Reinforce safety programs by complying with safety procedures and identify unsafe conditions and notify store management.
  • Practice preventive maintenance by properly inspecting equipment and notify appropriate department or store manager of any items in need of repair.
  • Notify management of customer or employee accidents.
  • Report all safety risks, or issues, and illegal activity, including: robbery, theft or fraud.
  • Ability to work cooperatively in high paced and sometimes stressful environment.
  • Ability to manage conflict in a reasonable, nonconfrontational and cooperative manner.
  • Ability to act with honesty and integrity regarding customer and business information.
  • Ability to follow directions and seek assistance when necessary to resolve customer and business issues.
  • Provide support and assistance through direct interaction with minors, individuals with special needs, and/or older adults.
